I-002: custom system or a tablet in rl anyone?

Some Russians did one with a car PC. Carbon did an overhaul, but didn't change the nav. https://acurazine.com/forums/2g-rl-a...talled-928728/

tried the grom usb interface today
really not what I hoped for. its like going back to the early days of usb integration. everything is so slooooow and buggy
is there an interface for factory bose system for aftermarket radio?
im probably end up selling this car because of the very limited aftermarket support. I like to keep things up to date and this car is impossible to do so.
I don't care much for acura sending me messages lol
so far this car is the car that could be..
it could be great but Honda decided to make it difficult so they can keep it... as it shows by the crashing RL and RLX sales...
and yes im very picky when it comes to audio
I was an installer for 10 years and got spoiled so stock systems/slow buggy systems are bye bye or bye bye the whole car lol

so before i leave the RL world i did find some options for the radio
the marine units seem to be very good fit in place of the stock cd changer. or somewhere else even in front of the shifter
https://www.crutchfield.com/p_575PMX....html?tp=61742
digital media receivers
https://www.crutchfield.com/g_462750...?tp=72453&pg=2
double din media receivers
and also usb DACs that have a built in DSP and some have a 4 channel output and a built in display for sorting music( whith is also better than the grom usb adapter with xmradio)

update:
theres no way to interface the factory amp its a data connection to turn on the amp
one way to get it is to replace the oem amp with another bose amp that has a 12V amp turn on wire from another acura
or get an aftermarket amp
i tried many different ways today ended up with aftermarket speakers and amp
acura really did try their best to prevent any modification to this system
having all speakers except one on a common harness plug and a front right speaker on another harness at the amp
also having no remote turn on wire for factory amp it is a combination of the amp turn on wire and a data link. which is really stupid
since oem bose speakers are decent quality you can source a factory amp from another car like infinity amps from tiburon
or bose amp from older acura
or any other amp that powers 2 ohm speakers and 1 or 2 ohm subwoofer and has a remote turn on wire that it not data link

everyone is in for results but nobody wants to pitch in or at least try
eventually i will figure it out on my own
but if i spend all the time and money and nobody even tries to contribute and just wants to wait for the results then sorry
its not my ego so far i got no help not even attempt to help on this or other project
i abandoned the 09 radio upgrade because the whole reason for me buying a 300 dollar radio and other stuff was so i would share the info
but i saw no action so i went on to my next project which is the indash install with trying to retain as many features as possible
i also figured out a way to integrate a tablet while keeping all features and also tested it already
so i have been working on this. and a little contribution would be nice

at least see if someone can locate the schematic by searching online or maybe their local electronics repair shop because i cant find it anywhere and i need that to see how the display is powered
im not asking for money if thats what you thinking

Everyone is in for the results because it's never been done before. Of course the information won't be readily available. How do you think these kinds of things are found out? SOMEONE has to take the risk. What you essentially did is you walked in here and said help me finish my project that only one other person has finished before OR ELSEEEEE. When I first read the statement that thoiboi quoted, my exact thought was: "Wow, well that's pretty bold for someone asking for help" You are navigating in uncharted territory, more than likely, there aren't too many answers. Only concepts and diagrams. I have no more information than the service manual wiring diagrams, which I'm confused as to why they aren't providing the information you need? The service manual can be found using a simple search. As far as the '09 BT module, that was a risk you were willing to take on your own, especially considering there have been aftermarket solution that address the EXACT issue you were trying to solve. You were essentially trying to be Columbus and navigate a new way to India. Columbus has no directions to get there. But he made do using his tools. A service manual for an '09+ can be had for under 100$. The service manual for the '05-'08 is posted on this site for free. Columbus found North America. You found out the hard way that the Bluetooth module couldn't work. And for that we're thankful. But walking in here and asking for help with a confrontational attitude is a non-starter.
When I installed my JBL MS8 it was with little to no help and I knew that right from the start that I could loose a lot of money. Modifying cars is a loosing venture. anything custom requires deep pockets, a lot of patience, a lot if time and for you to accept that it might not work. When participating in forums, and if you're truly trying to help, it's a selfless thing. Not one staff member here gets compensated for their time. I'll speak for myself and say that I do this because I want to. I've never expected anyone to compensate me for spending time out of my day here. If you're traveling in uncharted territory on a vehicle with little to no aftermarket support, or much of a community to modify, expect very little knowledge.

you are taking it the wrong way
this is not just from this board im on many boards and always have projects going on
some message boards are much better community where everyone tries to pitch in with at least something
some boards peoples attitude is different. everyone just waits for results
i can find it myself but it would be nice when more people get involved for the benefit of everyone who owns an rl.
because that stereo is one of the roadblocks for owning this car for many people
maybe theres someone else who already did what i did, maybe not
chances are theres probably someone in russia or japan who has this but could give less fucks about sharing on the internet
but if more people pull their resources there are more chances of finding what we are looking for
eventually i will figure out if its even possible but im not trying to spwnd 2 years on it i want to move on to another project
im good at oem integration and thats my specialty as an installer
the 09 system would work but it requires all components of 09 to be present
top display
stereo
nav drive
bt module
and i posted a chicken scribble reference chart of year/part number needed
all it needs is adding the missing wires between the units and repin the bt module for new plug

I remember the only thing Carbon Legend couldn't get working was the temps on that display.

thats what im trying to get working
i have the wiring diagrams
i need the actual circuit schematics of the stereo and nav board
i have the connector pinouts
and already tried to power up the display
i got the backlight and test mode but no temp display

Have you looked into how the climate control board/control interfaces with the radio and and the display up top?
#24
from what i could see and it makes no sense to me
the 6cd changer is the control for top display
but im hoping its a pass through
im taking the 6cd changer apart to see what in it and test some connections

I agree, probably a pass thru. Just throwing a thought out there: Have you looked into how the voice control ties into this picture? Since there is commands that adjust temp, does that play anything into all this?
#27
voice control is most likely also integrated with 6cd changer since it outputs to the amp
alot of the communication is digital which is a problem
another way is to find a climate control unit with integrated display like a tsx or something that has same plug
thats why i was looking for tsx climate control earlier it looks like it has same plug

So I met another Acura guy this morning at cars and coffee, and we started talking about this. He had an interesting suggestion, if you go into the diagnostics menu by holding the Compass, Menu and Cancel buttons, you should be able to do a system check for each module, and you can also do a Unit Check. There is also an AC check feature there too. That might give you some insight as to what the car thinks is missing and might give a good starting point.

what year RL started displaying temperature on the main LCD?
was it 2009 or earlier?
If I remember right the 2009 radio I got was displaying temperature on the main LCD which means you are lucky and don't need the top display at all
you can use that space for something else
like a lazer show module or a disco ball reflector light
possibly some good news
that little module that I pulled out from the cd changer seems to have all the connections on it. I'm gonna poke around and see if display powers up when iplug this into the main circuit board
there are a lot of computer data system wires in this car
pretty much every module communicates with data link and they all seem to be connected to bcm and ecm

possibly selling the car so I had to put all the oem stuff back in
but I'm uploading all the progress I made so far and what I found
I had it up and running for few days before someone contacted me and wanted to see the car and I didn't want it to look like crap so had to clean up a little
1the climate control module keeps a memory of temperature(I have 1 different ones and they both show different temp when plugged in
the service manual does show inputs and outputs from climate control which might help a lot if someone wants to poky test the wires
theres a wiring schematic online on the bottom of the service manual that shows more details
and also the images I took of the abbreviations on the circuit boards
might help someone to get it all functional
as far as I can tell the 6cd changer is the central nervous cluster of this whole operation and seems to be data linked
the map would not hold memory of north up and I had to select it every time
I could not find a radio circuit diagram from any of the radio repair shops. (but you can call around and see maybe some have it)
I pretty much cut the circuit board in half and Frankenstein it by extending the pieces with IDE cable individual wires
something your local electronic repair shop should have no problem doing for you. I did it many times already for different projects and repairs
you would have to solder extra wires for it for illumination which are easily traced to the cd changer connector
I had to make room for a double din by cutting few plastics and bending some stuff in the back to move the nav controls down about half inch to make the indash fit perfectly
and shave off the side trims for the nav controls
another way that I tested before cutting the board is to use a tablet in place of the indash
this way you don't need to cut the circuit board, only desolder the buttons and find (or make) a basic circit board to house the preset buttons and volume control and tune buttons etc
this way you get to keep all the features of the factory nav and have a functioning tablet either through AUX or by using grom adapter and USB since grom can connect to a phone as a music source and play Pandora and other content
you still cut out the radio face to fit whatever size tablet you plan to use but you don't have to cut the circuit board just cover it with non conductive foam pad or double sided foam tape to secure the tablet in the opening.
grom charges the tablet also

Wow, a lot of work fuzzysig. I just bought a 2005 RL. Coming from a 1995 acura gs is like two different worlds when it comes to aftermarket audio. I removed my two amps and sub thinking I can use them on the RL. But I guess I was wrong. That sucks.
#36
its not really a lot I'm just making it where I can return to stock system plug and play if I need to
if you don't plan to ever have stock stereo you can cut the plugs off the factory amp and wire the aftermarket amps

i wasnt able to edit the original post to add more info
you use acura bose adapter harness buy 2 of them on ebay and depin the other one to use for subwoofer signal
and another unused wire for amp turnon
then get a similar harness to the bose amp plugs to plug in the bose amp side in the trunk
you have to de-pin the pigtail and shrink wrap each pin ans plug them in accordingly
this is the more time consuming way but its the right way so you dont desteoy any of the oem harnesses

Thanks for the quick response fuzzysig. Wish you were in NYC. I would have you do it for me. I'll see if I can pull it off otherwise to a shop it goes. Hopefully I can find a half decent one.
