Connection to AcuraLink through iPhone tethering?
So with the new iPhone 3G S and the new iPhone OS 3.0 Software Update, and once tethering is available, would it be possible to connect to AcuraLink through an iPhone?
I don’t completely understand how the tethering works, but it sounds like if the iPhone is tethered to a laptop or pc, it can be used as a modem. Could it then also be applied to the RL to access AcuraLink?
I guess I don’t completely understand how the tethering (when available) on the iPhone would work, so if anyone has insights on the possibility of using this to connect to AcuraLink, I would love to hear more about it. Would it be possible?

Tethering is the ability to use your cellular data as a modem to connet to the internet. When you connect your cellphone to your laptop, the laptop will use the phones data connection (3G) as a means of getting network access, that is if you have a data plan. DO NOT ATTEMPT THIS IF YOU DO NOT HAVE A DATA PLAN!!!!! Your bill will be HUGE!!
I dont know if you can connect it to AcuraLink. You have to setup a connection that you are using and im not sure if would recognize an IPhone or even if it uses a USB port for the connection.

Once ATT allows some data tethering through bluetooth it might work. The iphone 3.0 OS will allow this, but its not supported through ATT at this point.
I will certainly be checking it out when its up and running, although the whole acuralink thing is a little underwhelming. It is just nice having everything operating to its full potential.

Go Big Blue!
The iPhone was just a wet dream for some engineer when the car's cell phone interface software was written in 2005. I'm sure it won't work with the iPhone even if you hacked it and have tethering enabled. Maybe the 09 MMR can support it but I still doubt it.
