Confirm that I need to buy 4.31C navi disc for my 05 RL so i can upgrade to a 10-15
So i just bought my 2005 RL this week and i want to do a few things to it, one being update the Navi.. I have not checked the disc but i can only assume its the original disc that came in the car 10 years ago
in order for me to upgrade to say 2010-2015 ( haven't decided which one because I'm mostly looking for a interface upgrade as priority .. I have read I need to buy the 4.31c disc than once I upload that into my Navi system in the trunk I than separately upgrade to one of the white discs of whichever preferred year I want
4.31C was the first update to require the firmware update all subsequent versions rely on. The update disc and map disk are separate, and you only need the update disc once. Because of that, there are a few that float around between members. If you buy the latest disc legitimately, it will come with whatever update is required.

i bought mine on eBay my disc reads the 4.14 but I'm US so i don't know about your disc being canada and US but i just looked on eBay.. i bought it for cheap hoping it arrives within the week once i get it you upload it in the trunk let it do its thing and once that update finishes from what i know i can update to a 2013 Navigation or newer Navigation and update the interface
How much are you planning to pay for your ebay and 2012 maps purchases? Also, are you sure the ebay purchase comes with the firmware update disc? I ask because if you just buy the latest disc from Acura, they give you all you need, and it could be cheaper or at least less hassle.

Did you ever verify whats in the car? Not trying to tell you what to do or anything ...but it might be a good idea to verify what version of firmware your car currently has in it - maybe its the old firmware OR maybe it's been upgraded and you don't have to worry about a SW update disc. Same goes for the Map disc too....
yeah i checked it a couple days ago.. i don't remember it exactly but i believe 4.14? its from 2004 or 2005 its original i know that i just can't remember the exact numbers
would it be too much trouble to ask someone to find me the software and firmware update discs for however cheap it is .. i don't need the 2015 disc I am only doing this mainly just to add a new user look to the navi screen.. i don't know when Honda changed the interface to look differently than the 4.14 disc but I was randomly choosing 2012
If your current map version is pre-4.31c, then you will need the firmware update disc to be able to use a newer map disc version. If you are buying the update from a legit source, select the model of your car, and they will send both firmware and map update discs if you need it.

And if I am buying used off eBay or here do I need to buy a 4.31 update disk AND a map disk?
What year map disk works with the 4.31? Anything after 2010?
4.31c is the map disc. That will do you no good. You need the firmware update disc. Post 8 has a picture and quotes it as version 1.29.00. I think it's been needed for quite some time. My guess is around 2008.

Also, subsequently I guess by checking on the disk I can found out what is the Map version , right ?
You can check the disc for the map version. There is a way to retrieve the firmware version from the diagnostic menu on the nav screen, but I don't know the exact path. I know you hold Map+Menu+Cancel to get to the daignostic menu.
