BREAKING NEWS! Acura to recall ALL RL Vehicles for XM problems

For those that have not been aware of my and other Acurazine member's
plights here....

There are many of us outside of the VIN recall range that are having
problems with our XM Radio refresh and preview channel switching. Yet,
Acura has been very steadfast on not recognizing nor readily being
cooperative in addressing our concerns.

Yesterday I spent the morning arguing with my dealer, Acura Customer
Care, and even the district manager to have the fix done on my vehicle.
I was flatly denied because my car was out of VIN range.

Today I got a phone call from my dealership service manager.

Apparantly Acura is going to recall ALL 2005 RL vehicles to have the
XM fix performed.

Not to take full credit, and I am not even certain the Service Manager
was telling me the exact truth...

It was actually my complaint and the phone call that the division manager
made to California on my behalf yesterday that prompted Acura to expand
the recall. I am certain that Acura also took into account all the other
complaints they were receiving as well.

If this is system wide recall is true, this is a HUGE win for those of us
that have been struggling with Acura for weeks about being excluded
from the recall range.

Great News!

Great news, but its a TSB not a recall. Recall is ONLY for safety issues with the vehicle. TSBs are for minor things.

But, either way, great to hear they will take care of everybody!

Congrats!!! I truly believe, after dealing with Acura on the XM problem for most of the year, that if you yell long and load enough, that Acura CS will come through. It's just a shame they have to give us such a hard time before we get there (the regional manager for Acura here for Orlando, told me flat out to my face in August, that there was no XM problem, any delay was normal due to the NavTraffic and that Acura was not going to do anything).

Oh well, you won out and that is great. It is so cool to see the screen refresh immediately. It comes in great during games and on channels like the 60s on 6 where they flash a lot of info. Have fun!

I dont' know, I had a different experience in this whole matter than some of you...as soon as I found the XM refresh delay problem following the April AcuraLink update and began reading of similar experiences in this nsg, I contacted Acura Customer Care and spoke with a woman named Stephanie. She was quite pleasant and took all the info I gave her. She told me in that first call she would "report" my experiences to the engineering dept and gave me a case reference number for my reported problem.

A few weeks later, Stephanie called me at home to tell me she had done some further checking and found that there had, indeed, been other complaints of a similar nature in other parts of the country. She also told me she had personally contacted XM Radio but was told that a delay of several seconds was not unusual. However, she accepted my complaint on its face value that the delay was excessive andhad only started after the April update was done, and she agreed to keep pursuing it.

I then received a second call from her several weeks later, telling me that she was able to get info from the Acura engineers handling the AcuraLink unit and was told "they were puzzled about the problem and trying to figure out what might have caused the problem after performing the April update." She added that Acura was, indeed, aware they had a problem as I had described and were "working on a fix." She said she will keep me "in the loop" and would get back to me whenever she heard anything else on it.

In the meantime, I had been to the dealer for my initial oil change and had mentioned the problem, as well as my conversations with AcuraCare, and they were quite concerned about the problem. The service rep I dealt with told me to keep them informed since they felt I was "more in tune with the car" than they, admittedly, were.

About a month later is when I received the third call from Stephanie in which she told me their engineers had finally found the problem with the unit and were already working on a fix for it, to be released later as a TSB.

Two weeks later Stephanie called me back and gave me the number of the TSB (05-22) that finally took care of the problem.

At no time did I find any difficulty dealing with either the dealer or AcuraCare concerning this issue. I found both to be interested and concerned about the problem and was left with the impression they both wanted to keep me happy.

PR,

I am very happy to hear that your attempts were more
effortless than many of ours. From reading many threads
in this forum, it does look like some people were treated
far better than others.

Just picked up a brand new RL, VIN 20827. At first the XM, it refreshed, now it doesn't. Calling the dealer today to get the XM unit replaced. I am glad to hear everybody will get what they paid for, a flawless XM radio system. Kudos to all who pushed and got Acura to acknowledge this issue.

A dealer can still complete the repair even if a vehicle falls outside of the vin range the warranty claim is just completed differently. So if you are having a problem they should be able to just fix it and use the update as a diagnostic tool.

Yeah, it is just a bulletin, not a recall.

Just go into the dealer & if they don't have it in stock, they will order the parts for you & let you know when the parts are in....

Step up & go to Acura!

Hello guys!

It's me -- the author of this thread and the person who has
probably been screaming louder than everyone else as of late
regarding this issue.

First of all, my apologies for calling this a Recall. Some of you
went to great trouble to take me to task on this, and if I could have
re-edited the subject header I would have.

I went to my dealer today and had the fix done. It took about
2 hours, and I even got a loaner car (a TL) which was nice.

Wow! XM refresh is instantaneous! I have never seen the unit
refresh this quickly and reliably. It is such a great feeling to know
that this problem was corrected.

The only thing I noticed was no NAV TRAFFIC indication, but to be
fair, there may have been no traffic problems at that point of day.
I'll keep an eye out to see if my NAV displays traffic problems over
the next few days.

I am just happy that my XM is working flawlessly at this stage.

Njronbo, suggest you call your service provider and ask them to call XM for the purpose of re-activating your navtraffic, if it doesn't show up today. There is a two step process after this TSB is done in that the service provider has to call XM via the dealer line and 1) activate the XM service and 2) activate the navtraffic service. Doing the first does not automatically do the second. They have to specifically ask for both steps to be done. Very regularly the service folks (or XM, not sure) are forgetting the second step so that you get XM radio service but not the navtraffic service.

Happened to me and others here. I didn't have to go back in as I just called the service folks and they called XM right away and navtraffic began appearing again very soon after that. This may be your situation too.

OK, I give up re. live NAV Traffic...

I don't live in one of the metro areas for which XM has a traffic/weather channel, so I don't ever tune in to any of those, save for the curiosity right after Houston was evacuated and I wanted to "listen" in on local traffic bulletins.

Now...what is it exactly that has gotten fouled up in some of the new post-TSB AcuraLink units that have been installed? I don't follow the different ways of describing the problem, since I don't even know how to find out of mine is working or not.

A little info will be greatly appreciated

I had the same problem - no nav traffic - after I got my unit replaced. First I had to call XM and give them mty new radio code. Then I had them download the navtraffic. It seems that the dealer/tech did not call XM and my radio registered as a NEW radio on the XM grid. Since XM downloaded navtraffic, everything has been hunky dory.
