Bluetooth Pairing

My HTC 8x updated to the new Windows 8.1 and now my phone won't automatically pair with the car. As a matter of fact, manually connecting the car to the phone is not functioning either.

I have to go into my phone bluetooth settings and find the HandFreeLink (it's only there because it used to sync) and hit connect. That is now very intermittent.

Can we get the bluetooth module upgraded in the cars?

This is probably just an issue with how Microsoft updated the bluetooth support in the new update. This happens from time to time with Apple too, and will likely be fixed in a forthcoming update from Microsoft if they're anything like Apple. The short of it is that there's nothing really wrong with you bluetooth module (most likely), it's just that someone screwed up some handshake code in the new Windows 8.1 for your phone

I would not bother trying to upgrade your module. 2003 technology mixing with 2013 technology sounds like a waste of time.

We have seen HFL modules go bad and need to be replaced, but more often than not, Mitch is right. Check another phone to confirm the module is good.

Have had the exact same issue with the same phone. And yes, it began as soon as 8.1 was installed.

I have to manually connect through the phones BT Settings menu but it will take 3-8 times before showing it's connected. I rent a lot of cars in my business travels and everyone of them will connect instantly with the HTC8X.

I've looked at the Acura BT modules and there is a software version (1.0 or 2.0) listed on the labels. I'm wondering if we need to upgrade the module as Bluetooth technology has also changed and is now 4.0 on most newer BT devices. I can only imagine that back in 2004/5 Bluetooth technology was at it's earliest and .5 or .8 would have been the latest version Acura had to work with.

I wonder if my dealer would test it out for me on a 2008- 20010 used RL to see if those modules with newer versions would work. Who knows when MS will update the software and if the fix will be included. They're famous for leaving older software users SOL.
