Actually, I am considering trading my 2005 RL for a 2011 model ZDX. My life has changed since I got my RL in March 2005. I would like a vehicle that has more cargo space than the RL, plus fold down seats. However, I'm hesitant to go with a full-fledged suv (although I do like the MDX). I really like the X6, but the ZDX will probably cost substantially less. Therefore, I am watching this vehicle with interest for a possible late-2010 purchase.

I like it. I didn't think I would, because I don't like the X6, but this looks better to me.
According to the press release, pricing will be between the MDX and RL.

My random guess is the ZDX's base price will be about the same as the MDX with sport package, since that's what it basically is.

Hell freaking no with that front end

I'm not that wild about the grill, either. However, that seems to be the direction Acura is going with all their vehicles. Oh well, at least ZDX drivers won't have the indignity of people confusing their rides with Honda Accords.

Good luck selling those @ $50k. They should have just refreshed the MDX with the 6-speed transmission and updated technology. This is a car in search of a customer segment.
They really are smoking crack in Torrance. I have no confidence in their ability to deliver a decent RL replacement next year.

For all we know, the 2010 MDX might have the same 6-speed transmission. If it isn't in the 2010 model, then I'm sure it will be in the 2011 model MDX.
The ZDX is essentially a sportier "coupe" version of the MDX. It is based on the same platform, uses similar parts and will be built on the same assembly line. In fact, I think they could have given called the ZDX the "MDX Type S" or "MDX coupe." I don't think the purpose of this model is to sell a whole lot of units. The purpose, I believe is to increase economies of scale for Acura (American Honda Motors, actually) by increasing production at the plant where the MDX is currently made. For example, if the ZDX only sells 10% of what the MDX sells, that means AHM will increase the usage of that plant by 10%. That could be a good thing for AHM and the folks working at that particular plant. In addition, the ZDX probably didn't cost that much to develop (relatively speaking, of course) since it uses a pre-existing platform, including the J37 engine currently used in the RL and MDX.
Finally, having limited sales of the ZDX could be a plus for AHM. Why? Because this model can be the "guinea pig" model where they can test out the new 6-speed transmission in the real world before putting it in their more popular models. That's what they did the the RL and SH-AWD.

Man, I just don't have hope for the exterior design of the 3G RL based on this. Come ON, Acura!
