Window Tint Question

Window Tint Question
In an earlier thread about window tinting (Tint cooler or hotter), there was a warning regarding the use of metallic film ... It could impact the NAV reception because that particular antenna is located in the rear deck. For those who have already tinted their RL windows, I have a couple questions:
1) Did you your window tint contain a metallic film?
2) Was the NAV reception impacted by the tint?
Ciao,

I don't have an RL but I did get my windows tinted yetserday. I heard an employee talking to a man who wanted his Infiniti tinted and that the mettalic tint would mess up the reception for his navigation so he should use a ceramic based film.

Unfortunately, the local installer uses just one brand.

My installer educated me on using a non-metallic window tint. There was a price difference, but I felt that I'd rather be safe, than sorry.
He used 3M ScotchTint Color Stable Film.
Per 3M
"While most other window film companies buy their polyester from someone else, 3M makes its own polyester in Decatur, Alabama. During this process, 3M patented a technology for producing its own nano-carbon polyester. This revolutionary and unique process, allows for maximum heat rejection without metals, which can interfere with radio and/or satellite signals. It also gives our films a beautiful neutral black look with unpararell color stability. Never before has anyone done this. In fact, it's so advanced that in time-based tests, 3M Color-Stable Auto Film held its color while most conventional dyed films rapidly changed to a purple color. No purple windows. Guaranteed!
We stand behind our work. Color-Stable films are backed by a limited lifetime warranty, which includes color stability."

From my understanding the mirror tint will interfere with the navi. Although if you are talking about your 96 RL, I do not know if you have nav and/or where the GPS antenna and regular AM/FM antenna is placed. If you are talking about the 96 RL your question may be better answered at https://acurazine.com/forums/acurazine-articles-2/ (the 1st Generation RL forums)

Sorry for bumping this old thread but speaking bout mirror tint i have a funny story to tell you...I heard about a new shop that opened up less than a mile form my house. So I went after work to check it out and when I get there to see there’s not even a sign with a name on it there’s just a but banner on the outside and the front door has full mirror on it and there’s a 91 Lumina 4 door out front with full mirror on it too ...lol oh yeah the banner said Protect Guard film anyone ever hear of this stuff???
