When buying a used RL...
I made sure to stay from the 05 in good faith... (not a fan of first year models) Going tuesday to take a look.
Was hoping someone with the car, could give me advice on what to look for around the vehicle, inside and under the hood as a general look over to decide whether its worth pulling the trigger.
Thus far, car is 2 owner, 06 base with nav, 101k
Second owner had it since 34k, dealer serviced throughout and had 90k maintenance at around 94k i believe. (Carfax details) the vehicle is being sold where second owner originally purchased it. From what i can see it looks clean both in and out (photos) arm rests and center arms intact. As well....
Any further help or advice greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

No diff between 06 and 05, pretty much same issues. Both years are great. There is no 94k service, btw. At 105k or 7 years, plugs and timing belt should be done. Differential and transfer case fluids should have been changed along the way along with trans fluid. Search around, there's plenty of info on this topic "should I buy" or "what should I look for".

I figured the 06s might be a little cleared up as far as issues are concerned. Not saying there is a particular service at the 94k mark but the typical water pump and timing belt service is listed as having been done so that should be good?

I think the 07s cleared up most of the issues. Listen for any whine from the Transmission or a flutter at the bottom of 5th gear, around 38-40mph, that's where torque converter issues can occur. Driveshaft bearing is a known issue too. AC field coils are notorious. Door handles, loose side mirrors, check that all recall work had been, including power steering hose. Flickering headlights, AFS issues. There is a lot to go wrong and some are very pricey, but once sorted, there isn't a better car in its price range out there.

Thanks for the details. PS seems i cant utilize my pm for a few days.... during my (trial)
How could I inquire further about "serviced" remarks that are listed in car fax records. Would the dealer listed have detailed records of those services? Also recalls. Im sure the place selling the car wont know. How does one dig this up?
Thanks again!

I just bought a 2010 RL with 70k. I asked the dealer if they could put it on a lift so i could inspect the under carriage. Low and behold i found the rear passenger shock leaking, the front bumper was painted as well as the front rim was repainted. So i assume the previous owner hit a curve and had the rim repaired due to the rim weights were painted.
By identifying these two issues i was able to negotiate further and i was pleased.
Also this proves that a Carfax is not 100% accurate most of the time. Prior to the RL i had a 06 TSX and it had a clean CarFax but was clearly in a accident as the unibody weld center welds in the drivers side wheelwell had split. I took it to my mechanic and he told me the car was clearly in a accident..
So i believe having the dealer raise the car and put it on a lift to see under it helps..
