what kind of bulbs are used for door lights?
I currently have red acetate underneath the diffuser that covers the lights in the doors. This does an ok-job of making my car night vision safe but I'd prefer some bulbs that are red. LEDs would be even better. Does anyone know what type they are and if aftermarket (rice) versions are available? I googled but didn't find anything. Perhaps my search terms were bad.
What about the bulbs in the trunk? I pulled them out and they show the brand (forget which) and 12V. because of the way they are constructed it will be easy to solder in a red LED though so I will probably do that.
Now if only I could replace the blue LEDs in the doors and elsewhere with red ones....
I need this for my astronomy addiction eh hobby.

Thanks! Some bulbs appear to be direct replacements. I'll have to see what types the bulbs are to make sure. Perhaps something the service dept. can tell me.

If you find it I'll be embarassed because I looked but did not find. However, the site you provided sent me to Sylvania who has a convenient lookup feature!
I've copied the search results here:

So the 168 is the one that's actually easy to coble up yourself in the trunk area. I see no listing yet for the door lights but I think it's this one: http://www.superbrightleds.com/BA9S6_specs.htm . I tried to remove one of those bulbs from the door but it was rather stuck so I didn't force it (yet).

Hmm, they sure aren't expensive. Less than a buck for a 168 replacement LED. That might be just the ticket. I might get creative and keep one light white but add a switch to it so it can be disabled. There are of course times when a bright trunk light would be helpful.
