what if this car had 4ws?
what if this car had 4ws?
i remember seeing a prelude with all four wheels turning.
of course the back wheels didn't turn that much, but it was still interesting.
so my questions, if the acura RL with SH-AWD had 4ws, how much better would the handling or turning be than it already is?

Not sure I would want 4WS on my RL. I owned the 4WS Prelude and did not find it made much of a difference over the previous 3 Preludes I owned.
The system was 100% mechanical and worked as follows:
- turning the steering wheel very slightly (much as you would to make a lane change while cruising at highway speeds), resulted in the rear wheels turning in the same direction as the front wheels
- as you continued to turn the steering wheel (about a half turn), the rear wheels would return to the nuetral position
- turning the steering wheel further would cause the rear wheels to turn opposite to the front wheels (always as a much lesser angle than the front of course). This really only came into play at very low speeds, such as in parking lots, never useful in most cornering situations

By the way, i'm talking about the 92-97 lude
Or maybe my memory is just playing tricks on me
Either way, I don't think the 4WS was a huge hit for Honda and probably won't be back.

There is no need so it will never happen. thus SH-AWD will not help at lower speeds like 4ws does, it will do the same job at higher speed with the acelerating device integrated on the SH-AWD.
The Skyline R34 also has the 4ws system together with Attesa-ets AWD. That is the reason the skyline drives so well when cornering.
The RL does not need it.
