you can go aftermarket pads like i did and have ur own machanic do it for $120 for front and back pads and get power slot cryo rotors for $400 for all four. and you should do the stainless steel brakelines. A world of difference.

When I told the service writer at the Acura dealer I was going to wait a while, he took me aside and said if I do go somewhere else to make sure I get brembo was he bs ing me ?
I just want to get a good job at a reasonable price.

you can go aftermarket. i have brembos on my TL...went aftermarket. a whole lot less dust! if you like the OEM bremobo pads, buy them from an online dealer (cheaper than your dealer), and then have the dealer install ($100/axle). $1200??!! i would have laughed in my SA's face if he told me that!

It depends what the "brake job" entails... The term brake job can refer to just pads... pads and turn rotors... pads and new rotors... just front... front and rear... parking brake or not... calipers or not... you get my point.
The price range varies greatly depending on what is being done.
So unless we know what exactly is being done, it's hard to say whether $1200 is too much. But knowing dealer pricing, you are probably getting ripped no matter what. It's just a matter of how badly you are getting raped.
Having said that, if you just need pads done, it's a pretty simple DIY and you can even order OEM parts from the online dealers and still get off pretty cheap...
Bottom line is we needs more details to be able to answer your question.

New pads front and rear resurface rear rotors
I know he is taking advantage of me I'm just wondering about needing to stay with stock brembo or can I go aftermarket and not jerk up the car.
Thanks.

Looks like front pads are about $162 and rear are about $62 for OEM from online dealers. The rear disks are $116 a piece new... so $232 a pair.
If you want 100% original performance, you should go OEM for everything, but of course you can go aftermarket for any or all of the above for cheaper pricing and not really mess up the car. You may see performance differences and varying amounts of brake dust and wear, but it shouldn't mess it up as long as you use proper fitting parts. I personally stick with OEM so I know it is just like original.
Now having said all of the above, there is one BIG fact that I'm not sure if you know. The front brakes on the RL are NOT Brembo... they are made by Advics. This has been verified many times over by various people. They are "brembo-style" but not actual Brembos. Keep that in mind.
So if you add up all the parts above and even if you include NEW rear discs, it comes out to $456 for parts. A shop with all the tools can easily do the install in two hours. So factor in $100 per hour, and it's still $656 with NEW rear discs. So the dealer is ripping you by double the price compared to an honest independent shop willing to use your parts. Considering dealer parts markup and dealer labor hours and rates, I would say $900 should be more like it even for a dealer. So you are still getting raped because they are overcharging you big time. Cost for them to resurface instead of replace rear discs is minimal, so they are making even more profit off of you there.
I would do the job myself with the $456 in parts and save a bundle and have new rear discs. The front pad switch out is SIMPLE as pie! You don't even need a wrench (well, you need one to take off the tires!). The rears are like any standard brake, so you need to remove tires, calipers, and disks to replace them, but it's not hard either.
Anyways, my two cents! Good luck on whatever choice you choose!

Thank you, tilemaster1 and teltrigirl for your quick reply great aftermarket advice,
and megatron you said everything I wanted to hear. I have an Acura extended warranty and want to stay oem. I thought I remembered the brembo discussion from a while back but this totally answers my question, I was trying to keep from laughing when the service writer gave me the quote and when he said that because I was a good customer he would wave the 79.99 inspection fee.
Thank you again

Changing brake pads is like changing oil...easy as 1-2-3! Resurfacing rotors is cheap if you take it to Orielly's; they charge like $10 per rotor! $1200 is insane! I would've laughed so hard in the service dude's face he'll feel all salty!
Since you're in IL, drive up here and I'll do it for a pack of beer! Bring your own parts though!

I would really love to have an Acura rep tell me my brakes are Brembo. I would have a ball with that and then tell him he probably thinks the head unit is Bose also.

$1200 sounds like a lot, but I suppose it depends what else they need to do. I have to do a brake job soon too. I'm ordering OEM front pads (I believe this is Brembo--part # 45022-SEP-A60) and rotors for $380 from an Acura dealer and my local mechanic is charging me $50 bucks to install.

Your calipers are Advics. The OEM pads are also marked Advic. The parts man said the pads were from Brembo and I said they are Advics, so he pulled the pads and we looked. They were marked Advic.

1200.00 is insane. I changed my fathers brake pads and used Duralast Gold. Front 47.99, Rear 44.99, Lifetime warranty. Changed his rotors and they were 57.00 each. So 300.00 total. Hasn't had any issues or brake dust. That was 40,000 miles ago. Still stops on a dime.

I saw that, but I'm on a 07 TL-S and am under the impression these pads are made by Brembo...I should've specified.
Anyhow, I was just throwing out some prices for comparison on a brake job...unless your pads/rotors cost $1150.00, no reason a brake job should be that much -_-
