Just be prepared for that conversation when they say that they cannot figure it out and you have to discuss them reversing the sale.

Do you have the wood steering wheel? If you do is it possible that the nut that holds it attached to the column is loose?I did the swap to wooden wheel on my car myself and i know that the nut needs to be tighten really well.Just a suggestion...

The best card the OP has in his pocket now is the dealer has acknowledged an issue.

This is a long shot, and unlikely your problem, but here is a potential scenario for vibration at high speeds, not related to brakes, alignment, balancing (sort of)

It seems that you already had the wheels road force balanced, but I had the same issue, vibration only at high speed, above 60-65 (hey, it's Virginia).

Took it to a local shop that I know does good work, and they road force balanced the tires, and could not. After trying everything they could, including checking the wheels (they were perfect, pretty new, forged BBS), demounting tires and switching from wheel to wheel, back to front, road force balancing each time, their conclusion was two of the tires had stretched beads, caused by incorrect installation. The now slightly egg shaped beads only manifested itself at higher speeds, and on the front wheels. They corrected as much as they could with the road force machine, and mounted the bad tires on the back, with the proviso that I never rotate until the tires were done. Had I put the "bad" tires in the front, vibration. Leaving them on in the back, the vibration was still there, but very slight, certainly not in the steering wheel. Most people never noticed the slight nervousness in the back.

Yes, it was too late to go back to the original installer....I never noticed the vibration until I rotated the "bad" tires to the front. Sort of bad luck...or by their design.

With new tires on now, the car is fantastic. Still less than 1000 miles, but the Bridgestone Potenza 970 AS are very nice, quiet, good ride, and planted. No snow, yet to speak of, so no test there. Great in the rain. Very good braking. 255/40-19. The old tires were Yoko Advan S4's same size.

As an aside, I was going to go for the Michelin Pilot Sport AS + in the proper size, 245/40-19, but since the Potenzas were the same price, and had a much higher load rating, closer to the original PAX tires (and stock 17's by the way), I went for the higher load rating, and slightly more protective (higher) side wall.

Finally got my car back! Not totally happy with it but I am so over the situation already. I am thinking about changing the rotors to something better and see if that helps because I honestly think they did not check the rotors or brakes but whatever it is a ton smoother. I will post a picture of the portion of the zero dollar invoice that shows what they did and y'all can provide some feedback. Thanks to everyone for chiming in!

I didn't read through all the posts so I'm not sure where are are at yet but I had the same issue with my 2000 TL.

A friend owns a tire\battery shop and I had new tires put on and a few days later I noticed a pretty bad shake in the steering wheel on the highway after 65mph. I bring it back, he re-balances...same thing. This goes on for at least a month and many "re-balances". Finally he gets it to a point where it still shakes but is better and I say fine...I'll live with it.

The tires wear-out prematurely because of the shake and I go back for new. He puts on new tires and...the same issue. Finally I decide to bring it to VIP Automotive to see if alignment is out of wack. "Alignment is off a little but would not cause this issue, sound like balancing" I tell the guy I have had these balanced more times than I can count but go ahead. He balances them and the car drives as smooth as silk at all speeds!

Bottom line...like with a doctor, if you don't think you're getting better, see another doctor.

Moral of the story: if your car shakes, you need a new friend.
