Turning off MID

Once you have activated the MID, is there any way to turn it off without turning off the car ignition? I like to check mileage, distance to empty, etc. from time to time but would like to turn off the MID when I'm done.

Thanks.

Actually, I'm not sure I understand the question. The MID defaults to a blank screen. You can toggle through all the main screen functions by pressing the up or down arrow on the wheel. Keep pressing and you go through all the functions and return to a blank screen. At least that's how my 07 RL works

The 05 and 06 RL's don't return to a blank screen - if you keep pressing the up or down arrow it just keeps cycling through all of the functions. You have to shit the car off and turn it back on for the MID to be blank again.

I'll have to try that. I've pissed my car off, but did not work for the MID.

*ducking*

Considering my typos out here, I rejoice it was not me.

I have an 05 and I want the opposite. I want it on all of the time but everytime I start the car I have to re-select what I want. And, half of the menus don't show up when the cruise is on. I sure hope that the software genius that came up with this idea is now at McDonalds.

I agree, I would prefer that the SH-AWD screen always be displayed on the MID unless I switch it to something else. Unfortunately, I don't think there is a way to change this...

I think most of us would like the NAV and the MID to be "Auto on" at start.

I usually leave my MID on the SHAWD display. When start the car I just tap the MID UP button once, and it displays.

If I tap the DOWN scoll button, I have to cycle through.

Where the MID really annoys me is when a Service Due alert is displayed. Not only must you get past it everytime yu start the car, it interrupts scrolling through the MID displays periodically, seemingly random.

Since it took 2 months from my Service Due alert to getting down to 10% on oil life, it was a daily nuisance.

I am fine with most of the MID displays where they are, but I still want to have a heads up display for SHAWD and a secondary one on the NAVI (as is the Trip Computer).

The SH-AWD display is practically useless as you can only see it when the car is going straight. I usually put mine to the Instant MPG.

Yes I totally agree with you. When I am banking hard into a turn there's little time to glance away from the road and look to the SH-AWD in the MID. I besides, the steering wheel blocks the display when the steering wheel isnt in the straight position. Its also a huge pain that the MID defaults to off when the car starts up. it should stay where you last put it (in my case on MPG), just like the radio settings do, for example.

I have an '08 and when you toggle through the selections, there is no "blank" screen. Sounds like something changed between '07 and '08.

I actually prefer the blank screen so am happy that it does not default to the previous setting. But seems like having the option to "select" a blank MID with a default to the previous setting would make everyone happy.

No you misunderstand. The only time anyone gets the blank MID is when restarting the car.

Hmm, maybe I'm mistaken then with my earlier comment. My daughter took my car today. I'll have to check it out tonight. I'm almost certain it toggles through the options and back to a blank screen. Maybe that's my MDX that works that way.

It's the MDX. I know my RL doesn't, but in the loaners I've had (TL, MDX, TSX) you can always toggle to a blank screen.

You're right. I'm wrong. I checked it out last night. My 07 RL does not go back to a blank screen. Only my MDX does that.
