Transmission? Car Stall

Transmission? Car Stall
I am very concerned with my car. Yesterday I was driving back to my house from Colorado Springs which is a 9 hour drive. 4 hours into the trip I was moving along on cruise going 80mph when all of sudden my car mph go down as if I had stepped on the brake. I tried to accelarate with no response. At that point I had to pull over. I could see my rpm's go up and down on each down shift from transmission. Than when I was almost at a stop my car stalled and turned off. I turned my ignition off and turned back on with no problem. Got back on the road and than an hour later this happened again. Had to pull over and did the same thing. Got back on road and about an hour and half later again. Has anyone had this problem before? I appreciate some feedback. Is this a transmission issue??

Check you battery cable connections to the terminals and make sure they are tight. You should not be able to wiggle the cable at all. Did you notice any electrical issues (turning on/off) at the time of these events?
The only other thing I can think of if no other electronics acted up would be your distributor system. Thinking out loud, I would guess the main supply if all engine power was lost.

sounds like the same situation with my gf's acura cl-s. it started to do that but not as frequently but before she traded her car, she had to pull over and turn the car off every mile to make it to the dealer...check engine light showed 2 tranny codes...but hopefully for your instance, its not...

Someone just revived this thread and I would put money on it being your issue. Late June 2012, Colorado...

Found it in the "garage" section above. If the link doens't work, check that thread...says how to get it working.
But here is the cut and past from the first part of the service bulletin:
Fuel Vapor Lock
SYMPTOM
The engine has an occasional performance problem
during unseasonably warm weather. This condition is
worse at higher altitudes.
PROBABLE CAUSE
High ambient temperatures and/or high altitude causes
fuel vapor lock.
CORRECTIVE ACTION
Replace the fuel pump module. The new fuel pump
module has a recalibrated fuel pump.
PARTS INFORMATION
Fuel Pump Module: P/N 17708-SJA-A02
Base Gasket: P/N 17574-SDC-L01

There were no electrical issues when this was occuring. I will say that when it was occuring the outside temp was on average over 100 degrees. the last 3 hours of my trip which was when my car did not turn off the temp outside was between 85 and 90.

An update. I replacement my fuel pump/filter. My car has not turn off to date but at the same time I have not driven it in 100 degree weather yet. I also replaced my MAP sensor. My rpm's are still jumping especially at higher speeds. I am stumped on what my problem is. My transmission has new old.

if I accelerate when I am going anywhere above 50mph as it downshifts my rpms jump up and down. another thing I started to notice is that when I first start the car in the mornings my rpm's jump slightly.

That thread would be mine. I have not had that situation develop again in the last year. I am now living the Mojave near edwards afb...routine heat...but i am not that altitude. I have not done any corrective maintenance on the car for this issue. I always drive in fear when i go down into LA and have to make a climb up about 2000' to get back to the high desert.
