Tire Pressure

Tire Pressure
Does anyone keep their tires inflated to what the manual says? My tires were set at something like 36psi on front left, 33 on rear left, 33 on front right, and 34 on rear right. I took car in for 3000 mile service, and tire pressure was not corrected. Is this a major issue?

I must say that each service done, the tire pressure was always adjusted by the service dept. At least I know something was done for sure.

What I guess I wonder about more is why you didn't know about this yourself? I check my tires religiously, since they could put me in dire straits if not maintained properly. And doesn't the RL display the pressure for your tires for you? Couldn't be easier ...

Took delivery of my 06 two weeks ago. When I did, checked tire pressure. 37 front 34 rear. Requested them to check. The recommended pressure is 32 Front and 30 Rear. That's what they adjusted them to. Claimed the service tech did not reduce pressure during presale delivery inspection. They said the tires are overinflated for the transportation....

Suggestion- invest in a good tire pressure gauge and check the pressure yourself. It is one of the basics of car care. You are going to waste alot of time at the dealer over something you can easily do yourself. Besides I found the TPMS on the car to be quite accurate. Use that to occasionally check the pressure.

My '06 was delivered with tire pressures of 45+ on each corner.
Most foreign car manufacturers overinflate the tires so they don't flat-spot while sitting on the dock. However, the dealer should definitely have fixed this at delivery.
It took about 2 minutes to air-down the tires to 35 PSI each. I like them a little firmer than the recommended 32 PSI.
I took the car in for its first service -- A1, oil change and tire rotation.
They rotated the tires -- and jacked them back up. Unevenly. Tire pressures ranged from 38 psi to 51 psi.... and that makes a pretty substantial difference in handling and tire wear. Plus, in 95+ plus heat, i consider a 51 PSI tire to have a higher risk of blowout.
Of course, again, it only took a minute to air down the tires with the gauge I keep in my glovebox, but the point is, I shouldn't have to. Some tire monkey put air in without much thought, and I'm fairly disappointed by it. I dinged the dealer on the follow up survey for it -- so I expect that it won't be a problem in the future.
I mean, come on -- the car's got TPMS. It ain't that hard to monitor tire pressure.....
