Timing Belt Failure Do not buy kit from Rock Auto
07 RL
Replaced the timing belt, tensioner, waterpump, idler with a kit from RockAuto last spring, as I recall it had a name brand belt.
Within 2 months the tensioner failed, and shortly after the water pump failed. Both times the belt looked healthy so I kept it.
Couple days ago it stopped running at highway speed and had to be towed. Finally pulled the codes today, P0340 no camshaft signal. Well the sensor is a relatively painless fix so I set out to yank it.
Lookign for TDC, camshaft isn't moving with the flywheel. (!!!)
Somebody please tell me they've had a 2nd gen RL3.5 survive timing belt failure. Please.

One member had a timing belt failure. The car survived...the engine didn't.
The J-series are interference motors. Your best bet is to get a motor swap. Used motors are surprisingly cheap. https://acurazine.com/forums/second-...valves-866518/

Anytime a TB is reused, the rotation of the belt must be retained. A very knowledgeable mechanic friend told me this information..
I had a similar thing happen to me, but that motor was non-interference. I didn't mark the rotation of the belt before I removed it, so this could have caused the TB to break on me. IMHO.
Good luck.

Used motors
There's a bunch on car-partdotcom. The closest one to me has has under 40k miles and they're asking $1100. Upwards of 100k miles are down to $500. Guess that's the direction to go in.

I would look for rear or side impact collision vehicles.

This thread absolutely confirms my decision to have the dealer replace the timing belt and all associated stuff! I do a lot of work myself on all my cars but there are a few things that represent so much risk of FUBAR that I defer to the experts.
Sorry to hear of your troubles.
