SS Brake Lines

SS Brake Lines
Just received my ss brake lines from visionaryracing.
What kind of install is this? Do they need to drain the brake fluids to get these installed? What labor costs should I be expecting?
Does the fancy blue brake fluid have any impact over stock Acura stuff?
I haven't purchased brake fluid yet but I'd probably feel safer with Acura stuff since I don't do any racing and would like to walk on the safe side of any mods.

Hi 037, yes, you are right, they have to drain the system. They really don't 'drain' the system, they'll just start unplugging the lines and swapping them out. I don't know the route of the brake lines on the RL, so it might be a bit of a project for the techs, but I'll be interested to see how you make out.
The most important thing they'll do is to bleed the system afterwards, and that will get rid of the air pockets in the system. They should have a machine that does this.
FYI, they might give you a hard time about warranty issues, but the Magnuson-Moss warranty act will cover you. They can only void your warranty if the aftermarket part caused the problem, as far as I know.
Good luck and let us know how much firmer your brake pedal feels.
Oh, and yes, do use OEM Acura brake fluid. If you have any problems with your brakes or ABS system down the road, they won't be able to blame it on aftermarket fluid contaminating the system.

I think I'll walk on the safe side and get my dealer to install the lines as well as hr springs when I get them.
That way I can use the 15% off coupon they got...I feel this is gonna cost me dearly as the labor charge is $112/hr

that quote of $300 was from the dealer? that sounds pretty decent imo. I do know, to have the brake system flushed with new fluid is approx.~$150. so if you're getting the springs changed for $300. i would say the $500 would be for both, but then again you're also replacing the lines along with new fluid which might be more. Please let us know what the dealer is charging you for this.

Dealer quoted $1400 labor for labor before tax and 15% discount.
I was told it takes about 12-13 hours to do it.
Springs alone would be $600.
Also, I was told that RL has 8 brake lines not 4. Is this true?

as you can see in the parts catalogue, it's only 4 lines, part #1,2 & 3 and the 05-08 carries the same part# as your 09, so the lines should fit the same and you only need 4. http://www.acuraoemparts.com/delray/...All&vinsrch=no
i also didnt know they are no longer using the pax system..::yay::

Thanks much Fredren, as expected dealer is trying to screw with me. There is a $100 coupon for draining brake fluids and replacement, I bet i doesn't take much beyond that to swap the lines out...so out of estimated $700 for brake lines I'm sure we can get it down to $200.
Either way, I'll keep you guys posted.

This is why dealers drive me crazy. Anything out of the "norm" and they really pad the time required to do stuff. Come on, it's like they've never changed out a brake line before? I had a brake line rust out on my Jeep a few years ago, that stuff happens.
Hopefully they will smarten up.
