Software upgrade disc for 05 Acura Rl
Hello I'm new to acura zine and this has been posted before so forgive me! I'm looking for software disc to upgrade nav system I think its v4.A2. I don't see purchasing one for $100 dollars to use one time. If anyone has one I would gladly pay to use it and send it back just let me know thanks.

You have to have the software disc at all times to use it. If you are talking about the firmware update, it will come with an order for the software disc if you choose 2005.

The update is massive and, as noted above, it's a replacement disc rather than an "updater". In fact, you will receive two discs: an interim update and then the current one.
I suggest you do it.

I had a map disc from 2012 but I needed the firmware upgrade disc. They won't sell just the firmware disc by itself. I found one on Ebay for @30. After you are done using the disc you can sell it because you won't need it again.
Now if you don't already have a newer map disc then just order one directly and they will include the firmware disc with the new map disc. Then sell the firmware disc on Ebay!

Even my 2009 maps are nice to use in most areas. It's not google, but it's integrated. My car scares me, I feel like it's working now, I'm not doing any update even if the disc were free. I feel like if it ain't broke don't fix it. The old maps were great in DC, but Jacksonville FL has had major changes and I go there a lot so I use my phone when using the highways there or it will send me the wrong way.

I ordered a legit 2015 upgrade set of discs that came with the firmware & map discs. upgrade went super smooth. I wish i had taken the time to document what changed software wise but things seem to have changed the skins for sure because it now has a brushed silver look to many of the screens now.
As far as the Nav system itself were happy with its capabilities and interface. Used to have a top of the line Kenwood w/Garmin nav system in a different car (3000gt) and its not quite as good as that system but pretty good. one thing i really like about the acura alpine nav system is being able to use the control nob to pan and zoom to a destination and just hit enter

My main issue with Acura nav is that it doesn't have traffic monitoring and has limitations on how it navigates. I think for a system back in 2005, it was pretty nice, and I suspect NAV in newer models is better, but I'll stick with WAZE in my 05. The NAV in my Wife's 2014 cx-9 works pretty well, it's driven by tomtom, which isn't great on its own, but seems well integrated in the Mazda and automatically reroutes if it see trouble ahead.

There have also been plenty of complaints about poor update times (maybe that's changed recently). People would say it wouldn't show an accident until 30 min after (when you're likely stuck in the traffic), and it wouldn't update a cleared hazard promptly either. I never used it, so .

For what the system is, Alpine and Magellan did an excellent job. Sure, it is a 2D system and it doesn't have free Navtraffic and it has no USB port...and it uses a dial system versus a touchscreen...and on and on. The system for this car is over 11 years old.
If you must have a robust system, save the money and buy a large Android or Apple phone. Heck, you can buy an Apple iPad with LTE.
