should I buy a 2005 RL w/ 38K miles?

I've been to the dealership 3X now --- have found what drives (and looks) to be a beautiful 2005 RL (Lakeshore color) w/ 38K. I can probably get it for $24K + extended bumper to bumper warranty (3 years from purchase).

I've got one big concern -- electrical system reliability. car was assembled in May '05, FWIW.

thoughts? any questions I should ask the dealer b/4 taking the plunge?

Thanks! I'm really glad I found this site.

Too much money. I have the same year and payed under 24K OTD and I had 30k miles. You can beat them down to 2o$K.

I think I've decided to move into an SUV so I will be soon selling my 05 RL. It has just turned 25k miles, pearl white, tan leather, wood steering wheel/shifter, spoiler, and AcuraCare extended warranty. No accidents. Let me know if you're interested. bschmidt@neb.rr.com

Seems like too much. Washington Post has 05's starting at $20K...and you can almost always get lower than asking price, especially in this economy.

does seem like an outrageous price to me, I paid $27 for an 05 w/43k back in May. I'd say 22/23 would be a better price. Check the tire treads, you'll probably have to replace the tires within a year, will set you back about $1k.

sorry, that should have said "doesn't seem like an outrageuous price," not "does"

I agree that the pricing doesn't seem outrageous, but it won't hurt to start at a lower price in your negotiations.

I dont think the price is that far off with the extended warranty. Real nice 05s with low mileage still under warranty go for about 20K at auction. Dealers will not sell it to you without at least a 1,500 to 3,000 markup. So depending on how much a warranty adds to the price your not getting a bad deal. I found out what my dealer paid at a honda remarking auction (ADESA) + auction fees, and offered them 1,500 about that. They countered my offer at 2,000 above what they paid.

When I was looking for RL's before I settled on one....they were running from $18,700 on up on ebay. The 05 I ended up buying had 36k on it and I picked up for $20,900. I priced out an Acucare warranty that would get me to 96k miles or 5 years for another $1350. I'd stay away from aftermarket warrantys. I've been very pleased with the car. At auctions, I've been seeing RL's go between 15k-18k with 28k-50k miles. Many dealers buy from reputable closed dealer actions. Hope this helps. Good luck.

Who cares what the dealer paid? This is a buyer's market. Offer them $22.

The dealer is not going to sell the car without profiting, its just a matter of how much your are willing to spend over what they paid.

Well that was a steal and wont happen for everyone

I got mine with 36,000 for 21k it had Aspec rims and a few other goodies so I was happy but I still think I could have squeezed them a little more.

With this market find out what the loan value is and go for $500 over that...you can get it almost every time once the realize you're knowledgeable of what they have invested in the car itself

seanod100 - I don't think the price it too far out of line, especially if it includes the warranty. Max that warranty out and offer them $22k. Hey, all they can say is "no".

I got my '05 with 9700 miles on it for $20250, offered $19500, they said . But it started the negotiations. and others in this area were going for $18500-$22500. I am on my own for the warranty, tho, so add another $1500 to my price and you are right in line.

I just received an email from my local dealer saying they have a 2006 RL w/ 34k going for $27,500. How low do you think I could lower that price?

got my 05 RL in Dec with 38K miles and CPO and paid $23M out the door. Warranty to 62k or 6 years from date of service and drivetrain 7 years or 100k miles. I think you should be able to get it between 20 and 23... my opinion

Your deal is little on the high side. However if you are all set with the color and low mileage RL's are rare to come by in your neck of woods then you may bite the bullet and pay the price.

Something else to think about is ....You can get extended warranty 7/100 or 8/120 as long as your car is within the initial factor warranty. So if you are able to find a Private Party RL for $18K-$19K and add $1200 - $1500 warranty to it you can have the car for $20K.

Anybody have more info on what that "other" warranty covers when you get a CPO?

Like, you get the 7 yr/100k powertrain yeah yeah, but the 12k/12 mo. warranty...

What's the difference in that and the bumper-to-bumper, cuz there IS a difference..

I bought a 05 RL gray (don't know which exact Acura color) with ebony interior with 47K miles for $19K OTD . Acura care extended warranty from Saccucci Honda +4yr or +48K was another $1275 (online purchase). Clean car. Seems like a good deal compared to some of the others in this thread.

BTW, Saccucci is cheapest on online warranties. Selling at cost and making money on volume incentives from Honda. No brainer for me. Since the warranty is from Acura it is honored by any of your local dealers.

Thanks for the tip about Saccucci! I'll pick up my Gray '05 w/37k tonight or tomorrow night. Paid $19.8k (price & registration fees, but not taxes).

I am very excited, though I need to be careful or I'll end up with the Volvo wagon while my wife drives the RL!!!
