What's the cost AH-AWD on the RL ?

SH-AWD on all Honda cars ?? Perhaps with mass production they could drive the costs down, and lower Horsepower models would not need as robust a system as found on the RL today.

Anyone care to estimate what the additional cost is for the SH-AWD on our RL's ?

My guess is $5,000. I also think that SH-AWD is the main reason why the RL costs so much more than the TL.

I think in mass production the cost will drop dramatically. I would agree that it is probably 5 grand for the sh-awd in the RL now - but in large qty production could drop to maybe 2-3 grand.

agree with vp911- around $3k.

from a fuel econ standpoint, i doubt that all cars would get it.

I agree. I'm sure the new MDX and RDX will get it. Not too sure about the TSX.

Will Honda turn into Subaru and Audi in the drivetrain sense...? I doubt it. But in some models that would be nice.

I don't see why they need to add it. They are selling more cars than every already. One of the main reasons people buy Honda is for value. If their cars get anymore expensive, people will buy the real thing. Look at the RL with SH-AWD, it did well in comparos but the public just doesn't get it. It could have stayed FWd at this point. Enthusiasts are not catering to the car.

We'll see I guess

From what I understand, Acura-branded cars will get AWD, but Honda-branded cars generally won't. It will be a way to differentiate between the two brands.

And the AWD RL is selling substantially better than its FWD predecessor.

RL with no SH-AWD= even lower sales, especially with the TL around

Please restart this discussion in Car Talk as it is more suitable for that section.
