Several Issues with Car
I drove down to Miami for the weekend and started noticing some weird things happening to my car. Please help in any way you can. Any inputs will be appreciated.
1. Transmission Problem: It first happened when I was driving to Naples. I was doing about 80mph to 100mph when all of sudden I felt a gear shift and the rpm went over 4000. I changed to manual and I noticed that my gear was on 4 instead of 5. I tried tapping to the 5th gear without any luck. I pulled over and restarted the engine and when I got upto 5th gear it stayed there for about half an hour and shifted back to 4th gear again. Should I do a whole tranny flush and see if it goes away? I have about 65000 miles on my RL but a tranny should be able to last to at least 150,000 without a problem.
2. Navigation Problem: Usually when driving at night, when I turn on my lights the Navigation screen changes to night mode or black setting because that's how I set it to be. But all of sudden it stopped doing that. Just in case there was something with my sensor, I put my lights to automatic and covered the sensor with paper to make it seem like it was dark and my lights came on but the navi screen was still bright. I tried to see if there was a setting that I messed up but couldn't find it. Please help.
Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.
John

#1 doesn't sound right. I'd get it checked out.

As to the shifting thing, that doesn't sound right. I have a few cases where I've floored it and it revs really high but doesn't "engage" right away. I'd take it in and have it checked. Can you reproduce it?

Trannies need fluid replaced much more often than most recommend.
Through the Legend Forum it has been established to change the fluid at least every 12000 miles.
Every tranny fliuid change I did myself on all our Honda cars was less than 30000 and they ALL showed dark fluid, metal shavings on the magnetic drain plug and ALL drove better after the fluid change. Use ONLY Honda fluid, changing more often is money well spent IMO.

I wonder if the grade-logic is faulty. The RL senses uphill climbs and downshifts more eagerly when going up-hill. I wonder if your sensor is "stuck" in the uphill mode thinking the car is on a steep incline.....just a thought.
Good luck with the repair. Hopefully it's not too expensive.
