Arrow Service reminder

Hi people..

Time for my first oil change on my 05 RL and I'd prefer to do it myself.

Can anyone tell me how to reset the oil life monitor?

Thanks in advance!!

I think you turn the key switch to the second stage and press and hold the reset button on the steering wheel for 10 seconds.

May be way off so check your manual.

You didn't get a free first oil change?

Specific directions are in the owners manual for sure.

Its dealer perrogative. My first two Acura's came with full factory maintenance for 2 yrs / 24K miles But my current third Acura only came with 6 free oil changes, 2 yrs / 24K miles (same dealership)

Every car I've bought in the last 10 years or so came with a minimum 1 free oil change, and often more (1 Chrysler, 1 Ford, 3 Acuras, 3 Toyotas, and 1 Infiniti). besides the Acura deals I mentioned, my Infiniti came with full factory maintenance for 2 yrs / 24K miles and the last two Toyotas came with 2 free oil changes each.

I think its pretty cheap to not give at least one free oil change - how else are they going to get you to try their service

Page 3-6 of your service manual. Like the others said, it's probably documented in the owner's manual as well but I tend to only reference the service manual.

I'd suggest following the procedure to reset the maintenance minder message first (assuming you are under 15% oil life) to keep everything straight.

To just reset the oil life monitor:

Cycle through the SEL/RESET button on the steering wheel until either the oil life % (over 15%) or maintenance minder msg (under 15%) is displayed.

Press the up/down arrow buttons on the steering wheel until RESET is on the display. Press the SEL/RESET button. The next time the ignition is turned to ON the display should show OIL LIFE 100%.

The dealer that I bought my RL from has free oil changes for as long as I keep the car. The only problem is the dealer is 365 miles from me. A little far to drive for an oil change.

Yea same here I got my first 5 oil changes free and after that I get a 25% discount off all other oil changes after that.

I would be really pissed buying a luxury car like the RL and not get things like that for free. If I was I would go back and try and work out a deal with them.

As for doing it yourself, are you adding more oil? or doing a oil flush and adding all new oil? If you are doing the total flush I wouldnt recommed doing it yourself my friend and he is now regretting it after he messed up some componets while trying to remove the oil filter. Best thing is to just get it done at the dealer.

No offense but I can't imagine what components could be messed up just by changing an oil filter, unless your friend attempted the filter removal with a jack hammer.
I like changing my own oil. I get to chose the oil and filter I prefer and get a good look around at everything on the bottom. I also can make sure I use a new oil plug gasket which should be done with every change. It's easy and I know it will be done right. Finally, my total cost with a top grade synthetic is around $28.00. Much cheaper if you use conventional oil.

I gotta agree with Rich - how the heck does one mess up 'components' removing an oil filter? The only 'trick' I see to the RL oil change procedure is the drain bolt washer that is supposed to be replaced each change; other than that, it's an oil change - anybody that can't do one of those really should let somebody else do all their maintenance.

LOL, thanks for reminding me - I need to order some new pads for RoadAmerica in a month, those EBC reds are OK for Gingerman but they aren't going to survive a whole day at RA!
