RL owners, any problems so far?

I currently have Audi 02 S4 and A6. We will definitly replace the A6 with some other AWD sedan. The RL sounds amazing, I am test driving it tomorrow. How does the RL compare with the Infinity AWD model? The new S4 had a lot of problems with the new model, I hope the RL doesn't have the same issues. Anyone have any problems so far?

Thanks

I've noticed a rattle in my driver side "A" pillar. I will probably wait on it until first service interval and get it checked out then. Other than that, nada.

pgeorg10 please do drive the RL and give us a comparison between the A6 and the RL

I'm considering the RL, the C6 A6 or a used RS6 if I can find one

Nah, the RL is made in Japan, so don't worry about the lack of problems...

It's the Hondas and Acuras that are built on Ohio, that you need to worry about

Paging Hemants: RL vs 02 A6, S4

RL vs the A6. I liked the RL much better. IMO the ride and power were much better in the RL. The technology and creature comforts no comparison=RL hands down. The RL handled better.

vs the S4=two different types of cars. S4 is a performance car like the M3. As I expected S4 handled much better, S4 more power+torque (stage 1 318hp.382 torq). My Acura sales guy races M3s and owned an S4 he even told me to keep the S4 and buy the Rl for my wife which I will probably do.

I have untill April to decide on buying out my lease on S4 or buy the second RL. I am a gadget guy so I love the RL. Ride/performance is not bad. It will be a tough decision.
BTW, IMO, Audi wins hands down on looks.
Hemants you may want to look at the 05 S4 they are running a lease special now $499/mo for a $50k+ car. You will have a hard time finding an RS6, I've looked=limited production and expect to pay $75k+(used) if you find one. The S4 with minor performance upgrades will stay with a Rs6. Audi and BMW are notorious for mechanical problems (the first year of the B6 S4 was a disaster, they have since worked out the bugs). if you like Japanese reliability forget it with German cars. Even MB is in the toilet, check CR. Also my experience here in MA with two different Audi dealerships re service and sales has been awful. One of my main reasons for trying something new. My initial experience with Acura has been very good so far. If you really want a performance car like the (S4, RS6,M3), the RL is not the car for you.

To answer your original question... 560 miles on my RL and no problems at all. This is a great car.

Re: the A6, I owned an '02 A6 4.2 Quattro/Sport, and although it was also a great car the service from the dealership was awful. I also found parts to be super expensive. Replacement tires had to be ordered from Germany and oil changes could only be performed at the dealer's because the V-8 was so rare. As I recall, oil filters were @ $75 apiece. It was ridiculous. That would definitely steer me away from buying another Audi V-8. I traded the car for a Lexus after 10,000 miles. I missed the performance and I took a huge depreciation hit, but I couldn't stand Audi's service anymore.

The Germans make some beautiful cars, but I just don't have the time to spend at the dealerships getting them serviced.

Thanks for the input.

Although on another scale, I had an 01 A4 1.8 and now drive a 02 Tl Type S. I do miss quattro and the styling of Audi but I really love the rush of the Acura's horsepower.

I've been looking at pictures of the new A6 tuned by ABT and it's a work of art. The RL is nice but doesn't visually move me the same way. But as you have said, there's a reliability tradeoff. Maybe the answer is :

1. buy a new audi every 4 years -> expensive
2. buy an extended warranty
3. wait for SH AWD to find it's way to the TL which I find more visually appealing

I've got time, I probably won't buy until the spring at the earliest.

Oh, and if any of these large mid sized luxury sports sedan came in a 300hp hybrid, that would tip the scales because this is also my daily driver.

rattle fix?

I have the same rattle, dealer unable to fix after four attempts. Several posts on this site have recommended stuffing leather or golf tees around the dash. Has your rattle been resolved and if so, what worked?

All minor issues have been corrected in the last TSB and
at 2K miles I'm getting low 20's mpg w/mix of city & highway.

BTW I just sold my '04 S4 Avant...great little car, horrible
gas mileage- drove like a rally car for the street. Had
-0- problems in the 5K miles I owned it. Do I miss it? Not
enough to buy another.

No problems here at 6.5k miles.
Car currently at dealer to apply the TSB's that should resolve the slow XM updating.
Also seeing 22+ in mixed driving, see 28+ in highway only.
