Replace driver's side wiper, not just the insert...

I replaced the inserts using OEM but I am getting the same issue I had with the inserts I replaced. There is a spot on the drivers side that doesn't wipe all the time. Yes, the inserts are installed properly. Is it possible the metal that goes in the insert is worn out? My car is an 05 and I assume the original wipers. I was going to just order a new wiper until I realized it is $60!

Clean the spot with alcohol (isopropyl, not whiskey) and see if it is something coated on the windshield.

I cleaned the windshield but that didn't help. The best way I can describe it is it clears properly on the up stroke by both the passenger and driver's wiper. On the way back down the passenger wiper clears the spot but the driver's doesn't. Sometimes it will but most of the time it doesn't.

Could this be a possibility if cleaning the windshield doesn't work?
