? regarding warranty and service of RL
Hey guys. I'm the new(to me)owner of a 2008 RL. Bought it certified with only 16,800 mi. Figures the second day I drive it the service reminder A1 comes on. Which is only an oil change but so much for the supposed 200 point or whatever inspection. I also purchased the acura-care 7 yr./100k mi. extended warranty. I would like to take my RL to my personal mechanic. He is great and did all the work on my previous rsx. Will this void my extended warranty? Do I have to have servicing done only at acura dealers to have the warranty honored? I should have asked this before purchase but slipped my mind. Thanks in advance for the info. Love the site and all I've learned so far.

As long as you have record of the service done (receipt, ect.), and they cannot prove that what you did caused the failure your are seeking to cover with your warranty, they have to honor your warranty. I would check with the dealer you bought it from though about what they did to certify it. It was my understanding that they are supposed to change the oil. When I picked up mine, it said 100% oil life. Maybe the tech just forgot to reset the service minder. Even if you wanted to change the oil yourself, a receipt of the purchase (filter, oil, drain plug washer) is proof enough that the warranty is still intact. There is a post in here somewhere about the law regarding your warranty, and they have to prove that your service/modification caused the need for repair.

I let an Acura certified shop work on my car and the dealer has never questioned my warranty.
And FYI, they may not have reset the MID after doing the 7 point but I would let your guy look at it none the less.

Got sa call from Acura last night. They still rate the dealers on service and you can say what you want if you are happy or unhappy. My dealer does extra things when I take it in so I say good things about them, and the prices on small things are about the same as if I did the work myself. Other than tires I don't think anyone but a dealer would touch our car.
