I only use the sunshade when car is parked. I understand the rear sunshade was a cause of rear "rattles" in the 05 RL's.

Mostly when it's parked, but occasionally when moving if it's real hot.

Me too. But if it's really hot or if we want increased privacy, I pop the rear seat rests up as well.

Only when I park and usually when the sun is to the rear of the car. For me it's added protection from "sun bleaching" the rear parcel shelf.

If I'm driving on the highway west in the morning or east in the evening (ie the sun is shining directly into the rear window), the rear sun shade has been very handy to have. If I'm taking buddies out to an out of town golf game and we're travelling north or south in the morning or evening, they really appreciate the manual sun shades in the rear doors as well.

I keep my two side rear shades up at all times. I only use the rear shade when parked.

My daughter (14) likes all the shades. She thinks she's a rock star when she's ridin' with me. Whatever...

Is there anyway to override the automatic roll-down in reverse?

I use it to block the bright lights from someone driving behind me with their high-beams (or mis-adjusted lights) on. I also use it when someone is tailgaiting me. I've had several people back off when they realized riding my rear bumper wasn't going to intimidate me.
