Pulling the trigger on a 2005RL w NAVI
I need to get a "new" car for my Mother, who drives sparingly and doesn't like getting into my Tacoma.replacing a 1998 Deville that has become a complete money pit in one year After it was hit by my neighbor , the starter, dash, seat, AC controls failed and now the brake lines are completely rusted. A gift from my late Father, ( sentimental) it was fine for her until this past year. My friend a mechanic and TL owner suggested looking into a RL 05-08 since it is luxuriously appointed and is reliable. I found an 05 Blue with 60,000 on the odometer it was a purchase off lease 3 years ago. minor knicks, it is clean only slight dent is right where an ASPEC rear lip might cover on the deck lid. Guy is asking $15,500 which is just below KBB, NADA in our area. Have seen other 05/06 RL's with > 100,000 miles for $ 12-13,000/

Sounds really nice, as I have a white 05 myself and love it (had it for several years). Check the service records, as the 05 had a few "bugs" that hopefully have already been fixed (AC, door handles/door locks, etc.). I noticed the headlights looked a little cloudy but not too bad. You should know they are VERY expensive to replace.
Even though the mileage is low you probably still need to have the timing belt service done ($900-$1200). It's due every 105,000mi OR seven years...which ever comes first.
Mine is trouble free and virtually rattle free. I keep thinking about a new car (the wife just got a 2010 GL550 a few months ago) but can't think of anything that could replace all the great things in the RL.

Try to check out the NAVI as good as you can. It's about time to flunk out and a refub unit will set you back $500 from Alpine even with a DIY.
Also you have about 40,000 miles until the old timing belt kick in the ass.

Thank you for all of the help. I went over the car thouroughly and with my mechanic,
and I put a deposit on the RL. The owner is getting new brakes put on it today, and a new battery and I am looking forward to picking it up tomorrow. There is BB size hole in the left fog light, but it works. Owner did inform me that he might have the 2nd key fob. That has me little concerned. Do they ever pop up on the market used from wrecked vehicles? and does the dealer have to reprogram the key? Fingers crossed he finds the 2nd fob

Stopped by the garage where the brakes on the "new" RL are being done, the car was in the air with the wheels off. My mechanic and my inspection earlier did not include getting the car on a lift, so this was my first look at the underside up close. Everything underneath looked good . I was pleasantly surprised that it looked clean but not too clean for me to be suspicious. I apologize for the lengthy rant but I'm nervous that I feel so good about this deal.

Taking the RL to get detailed this week. The Opulent Blue Pearl needs a good polish/ wax. I just finished polishing the headlight buckets with the final step of the Turtle wax headlight restore process. There was a slight haze that was the worst part of the car, and really "dated" it from looking at the front. I sealed them with Uv protector and they look almost brand new. I am glad I didn't have go through the full 3M process. I should have taken pics.
I have XM satellite from previous owner and I might have to upgrade the Navi
