Hey all!

Does anyone have a picture of the trunk drive of a base RL? Does it say DVD-ROM on it? I am wondering if the previous owner already upgraded the drive but took the navigation disc out when he sold the car and replaced the compass disc. I put a navigation dvd in from my mom's MDX and it read it but said the version was older than was currently installed so would not work. The drive in her MDX looks identical to the one in our RL btw.

Define Base RL. The definition varies depending on the model year. What model year RL are you talking about. Look at Wikipedia Acura RL to ge an idea of how the model definitions varied from 2005 to 2006 to 2007

A 2006, 2007, or 2008 without navigation should have the same drive.

^^This is not true for the drive in the trunk which controls navi functions.

The reason I wanted you to define base is because it does matter by year. I should have asked a slightly more straightforward question...what year base model are you asking about?

A 2005 and 2006 base model and above have the DVD Navigation unit in the trunk

2007-2008 base model have CD Drive unit in the trunk only for GPS Compass functions. Higher trim models will have the DVD navigation drive.

2009+ MMC's should be configured the same way as the 2007+, but I am not aware of anyone on this board that has 2009+ base model, nor why anyone would want one.

We do have at least one person that converted a 2007 or 2008 base to full DVD navi, and that thread is well documented with photos and how to.

This is the drive I would like the picture of- the CD Drive. I have a base model 2008 with a drive in the back that says DVD ROM right on the front. I do not have navigation. I am wondering if the previous owner already swapped the drive but swapped the discs out before he sold it as I have the compass cd rom disc. Thanks!

There is a thread on this that has lots of pictures. You will have to search for it and go through the various posts if it is not already in the 2G RL Garage which is where I would look first.

I dont think there are any pics in it.

Anyways, I just took a pic of my unit in the trunk. I dont think it will help you much. I have an '05. But I am fairly certain that all '05 to '08 RLs had the same DVD Nav unit in the trunk.

That is the exact piece I am referring to however unless your car is an alaska or hawaii model all 2005's had navigation. Mine has part number 39540 SJA A810 M1, with my mom's MDX navigation disc it read it and said that the installed version was newer than the installed disc, the 05 RL navigation disc I just tried to install said disc error incorrect dvd. the part number for the 05 RL nav drive is 39540 sja a010 m1 so I dont know if I need to change the drive or not.
