Oil life at 60$ after driving 3000 miles (question)

I tried searching in the manual and the forums something on this topic but came up with nothing so far... I have 60% left on my oil life and that's after I drove my car close to 3000 miles since I bought it 2 months ago...

Is it possible dealership changed the oil and put in synthetic; or how to find out if it needs synthetic; how computer knows if it is synthetic and if it's not is it possible that RL needs oil changes every 6000 miles?

Thanks much!

As per my understanding the percentage meter on oil life is based on miles on oil + how hard you drive the car. Or at least that was the way in S2000 and my wife's 09 Si Sedan. The more you drive hard, sooner life will go down and if you drive easy, it will take a while to get %age to reach 10% or 0% for that matter.

Dealers would not use synthetic or anything else other than what it says in manual unless you tell them to.

Perfectly normal.

Unless you are out hot rodding, or multiple short trips, or doing long mileage runs w/ cruise on at 65MPH

You will get about 7000 miles to 0%

So 3000 miles, 60% life left is just about right.

Dumb question, I have an 06 RL and can't seem to find the oil remaining percentage on the MID?

do not click any of the arrows; the middle button on the right hand side of the steering wheel will give you oil life if you go through the cycle of pressing the button few times...

Agreed on the 7000 mi oil change intervals. 3000 mi is a thing of the past, although oil companies and lube shops don't want you to know that. Also agreed on the driving conditions, but I didn't know the computer changed the life based on that. My understanding is the temperature and amount of dust in the air affect the life because it gets dirtier and breaks down faster. Some dealers use synthetic, and there are reports, and bottles, out there that show Honda is moving to a full synthetic for all engines.

Ahhh. Thanks. So weird. On our TL you just cycle through with the arrows until you come to it.

Only if you want to be wasting money. The consensus is there is no advantage to changes before the recommended change interval.

So I actually do NOT need to change my oil until 15-20% I guess? I don't mind ding what is actual maintenance - but not like I am going to run and do a oil change either ... whatever regular oil change comes at (6-7k miles) is what I'll do then...

I figured it out that an oil change is between 7,000 and 7500 miles. For me it seems to jump up faster than I can remember. The wife says," Did you just change the oil a couple months ago?" "Yeah, but look how many miles we drive a month." I reply. So I go into O'Reilly's to get some oil and almost took my breath away at the cost of oil per quart! It is almost $10 a quart for synthetic. Fortunately they had a special going on for Mobil 1 + filter.

Advance Auto Parts had a sale a couple months ago for 5qts + filter (both Mobil1) for $36 including tax.

Royal Purple has been working great in my 05. But what if you use a shittier oil? Does the percentage of oil life left diminish faster?

Yes but you have to tell the little guy under the hood that is performing the chemical analysis every mile that you are using shittier oil. Then he hooks up his miniature laptop and reprograms the MID especially for the oil that you use.
