Is OEM air filter good compared to KNN?
Let me start by saying I have used the search plenty of times but never got the answer im looking for. When you search engine air filter I keep getting cabin results.
I'm thinking of buying just a KNN drop in and taking out the resonator in the intake.. my question is.. I've never seen a Honda OEM filter so I'm curious is it a good filter compared to KNN? In my last turbo car my oem filter was garbage.
I really want to take out the resonator too hoping the duo together would increase throttle response a little better.
What is the resonator anyway? ( didn't search that)

It all depends on what you think "good" is.
It's made of paper IIRC, so it isn't washable or reusable. With the engine filter, you are always seeking a balance between air flow and clean air. To get the cleanest air, the filter would restrict flow. To get the best flow, the filter wouldn't clean the air very well. A good filter to me allows the most performance (air flow) without compromising the engine internals.
I highly doubt their is any significant difference between the K&N and OEM other than the ability to wash and reuse.

I think this is the original Honda factory filter from 75,000 miles ago gonna swap to a KNN .. gotta take out the intake resonator too but I'll start searching that in the coming days unless someone wants to link me to a thread or explain briefly what needs to be done/parts needed once res is removed

That's a filter after 75K? Doesn't look too bad. Here's mine maybe after 35K (using CarFax as the basis on the last time it was changed).
After I changed to a NAPA filter (and used premium fuel (thanks for the regular tank Mr. Dealer))- I saw an increase of 3.5 MPG.

For me it came to dollars and cents when making the decision. I went with the K&N filter for that reason. i can wash and reuse my filter and not add to the land fill.

Seems to me it costs pretty close to the same to buy a new filter as it does to use the K&N products to clean the K&N, not to even count what my time is worth to clean it..... If I had known you didn't just wash it in the sink with Dawn I would not have bought it!!!!!

I always just blasted it with a hose and let it dry.
