Non Navi to Navi question

Hello Everyone. New to the forums, and to Acura ownership. Recently bought a 2008 Acura RL without navigation (only one they had) and I have questions about the system. Im sorry if this has been asked and answered, ive been unable to pin down a specific answer.

Im curious if with the proper navigation software cd if it can have the gps functionality. The car has gps in it, it tells me where i am. It has a dvd rom drive in the trunk, with a white cd-rom in it, says Global Positioning System BM535AO Ver.4.54. This cdrom has some map looking bitmaps on it, streets with arrows on them and whatnot. Seems to me like its a software thing stopping the gps, as all the hardware is there. I know it does not have the tech package, no rearview camera, but thats ok, i can turn my head. Id like gps though. Any thoughts, comments, answers?

I've done it. All you need is a DVD drive and disc from an 06-08 RL. You can even add the OEM back-up camera if you like too (that's what I did as well).

In reading this and the other thread, did anyone get NAV-Traffic working and what were the parts that were needed. We have a chance to get a good price on a 2010 RL with 37,000 miles to replace our 2006 RL with 141,000 miles but the 2010 is a base model with no Nav. It sounds like we can change the DVD changer in back to get NAV working but we also need NAV Traffic.

People who live in hands free cities?

Off topic, but I don't care for Waze. Google maps FTW.
