New (to me) 2005 RL - Key Fob issues

Hello all,

Recently purchased a 2005 RL with alot of issues that I've been sorting out. All is well with most of that now but a new issue arose when I received my new (to me, ie. used) key fob so for the wife.

I've programmed both keys and both successfully lock and unlock the vehicle now. The fob I received with the car still will start the vehicle, but the new fob doesnt appear to be recognized by the car and will not allow the vehicle ignition to cycle. Ive noticed when pressing in on the ignition it "wakes up" and says welcome, while this is happening the red light on the fob flashes rapidly.

Ive done some research and not finding anything about this.

I have reprogrammed both keys (twice actually) and even tried the memory link/unlink procedure a few times with no change.

Both key fobs state "Driver 1" on the back of the case, do I need a "Driver 2" fob? Is it the fob? Some other programming I need to do? Anything else I can do?

Any help would be much appreciated!

I’m betting that you have to have a Driver 2 fob. It seems the car can’t be registered to operate with more than one Driver 1 fob. That would make sense.

I've been continuing research on this issue and found this post here : https://acurazine.com/forums/second-...005-rl-938086/

Post#3 from oo7spy is kinda the answer I wasn't hoping for, I hate taking my vehicles to stealerships as I perform all labor on my vehicles. Yet at the same time the answer I think I needed.

Anyone have any fob/immobilizer programmers they would recommend for this vehicld? Id rather buy a machine and do it myself if at all possible. Starting research on this now

I've actually had a lot of good luck with local lock smiths in the area. They'll have a machine that can program for you. Like you I do almost all the labor myself. I had two of my wife's Civic keys programmed and cut for around $90. The dealer charged a lot more.

Ive got an HDS that should be here todayor tomorrow. If all goes well I should be able to do this myself. Thats the hope anyways.

Amsoil fluids are on the way as well.
