Smile New addition to the family

New to us 2009 RL. 29,500 miles and looks like it's spent much of its life in a garage. I'm keeping my wife's 2005 RL ~170k as my DD. The 05 has newly failed struts that happened while on the lift for tire rotation. I will be replacing those and installing H&R springs.

A couple of issues that seem odd with the 2009. The GPS does not show on the selection screen yet the DVD player is in the trunk and the screen says GPS unavailable when going under bridge or something. It seems like the GPS software was uninstalled at some point. Anyone heard of this? Wasn't GPS standard on all these? Not a big deal since cellphones are our goto GPS anyway.

The pinstripes must die, especially the ones on the trunk(see pic). They are painted on...so I think my choices are wetsand or oven cleaner. Anyone have any input on this? Or, input on why someone would put these stripes on a car?

No backup cam, is this easy to add on the 2009's? Anyone have a link?

Original timing belt, suppose I will start losing sleep soon if I don't get it done...The build date was April 2008 so the belt is 7 years old.

Besides those little things, we love the new car.

Timing belt replacement is based on mileage and/or when you get notified via the MID and not on age. At least this is the case for the 3G TL and other models. Look it up in the manual - guessing you won't find anything related to age.

You will find a 7 year "recommendation" on the timing belt, but you would have to be a pretty paranoid person (IMHO) to go off of that at 30k miles with a garage queen. Inspect the belt for premature wear and proceed.

It sounds like you have a base trim package. The lack of navigation and backup cam indicate that the DVD drive and screen is used as a compass. Do you have a "Nav" button on the headunit or a "Compass" button?

I have heard about failed struts when put on a lift but don't know if this is common. Does it only happen to the stock struts or would it also happen with coilovers like the Tein's as I am considering them in the future. Curious.

Stock only and possibly only non-ASpec. Honda has admitted they know the root cause of the issue, but they did not offer anything to rectify it.
