Need some Insight

Hey Guys,

I am a current owner of a 2007 TL and I absolutely love it! I love it so much that I would now like to buy another Acura for my wife. She likes the RL due to the AWD that it comes with. Here's where I need your help...

I've heard about frequent issues with the 2005 RL. Things like the white noise from the drive shaft, electrical problems, and some iffy transmission problems. I figured there would be no better place to go for some insight then right here to the owners of the car. I'm looking at a 2005 Acura RL with 111k on it for about $11k. Any input helps, and thanks in advance!!

hey, could you possibly look at something a bit newer?
the 05's still were affected by some kinks, kinks like those you mentioned.

if you have no problem, fixing or maintaining those items you listed and the car checks out, by all means purchase it.
However, If I were in the market today, it wouldnt be for an 05.

yes, they are Honda's, yes, they are reliable, but an older 1st- 2nd year car wouldnt be as nice as an 06 or an 07.
remember, the J-series uses a timing belt and the recommended service of this belt is at 105k miles, along with the timing belt, and you could possibly throw plugs in there too.

again, an 05 would be for some one that wouldnt mind taking a bit of extra care for the car.
when buying a car for a S/O, i would want to make sure that the car is pretty much trouble free

That's kind of my initial thought. I also heard that most of the issues were taken care of the following year and forward. Thanks for the input, much appreciated!

The transmission is fine. The A/C and door handles are bigger concerns.

no, 05's have kinks.

no! 05's are great! I own one.
NOOOO!!!! 05's SUCK!

that debate.

it just comes down to how the previous owner treated the car and if you like to fix things.

LOL- i picked up an 05.. got a great deal on it.. have driven it for 3 weeks, besides the less than stellar gas mileage which may or may not have been alleviated after the tune up i did on it, the car's been awesome. i would look into the water pump though if your looking at picking up one with 115k miles. seems like dealerships are running a special on em around here for about 1k. factor that into your price if you haven't done so already. other than that, the previous owner really took care of his car and so far i have no issues (knock on simulated wood)

What was/is the mileage on your 05? The debate definitely doesn't help lol I see it all over now. Just trying to get a general consensus.

OP, the issues are documented. They are not the majority, but the numbers are worth understanding.

'05, '06, '07 & '08 Tech I & II all have real wood dash and trim above the "not an ashtray". The shifter trim, door trim, and all other years/models are plood.
