Navigation Update
Hello
One of my friends recently picked up a 2006 RL..fully loaded in white. Beautiful car. Anyway, 2 years ago when I got my Infiniti M45, I was able to get an updated Nav disc and put it into my DVD drive. It was very easy just changing discs.
I was reading online and I see there are White, Orange and Black discs and not sure which one I will need for the RL. I have easy access to 2011 white disc so hopefully that's all I need but just don't know the difference.
Also if any one could clarify the steps needed to install the disc into the system, please let me know. Thanks!

Step 1: Be sure car is turned off. If you want to take the extra precaution, engage the parking brake.
Step 2: Open trunk. This can be done using the button located on the driver door, the button on the key fob or the button on the trunk just above the license plate.
Step 3: Locate navigation unit. It should be located on the left hand side on the top of the trunk.
Step 4: Press "Open" button on navigation unit. The button is on the right side of the unit and says "Open" on it. The door on the Navigation unit will open.
Step 5: Press the "Eject" button. This button is located on the left side of the navigation unit and is visible once the navigation unit door has been opened. Look for a button that has a couple of arrows on it.
Step 6: Remove old navigation disc. Grasp disc with your thumb and index finger and pull lightly until it is completely out of the navigation unit. Wear some clean gloves to do this if you are worried about getting the old disc dirty.
Step 7: Insert new navigation disc. Again, grasp disc with thumb and index finger and slowly insert it in the slot on the navigation unit. Be careful not to push too hard and jam the navigation unit or break the disc in half. Once the disc it partially inserted, a magic gnome hiding inside the unit will grab the disc and pull it the rest of the way in for you.
Step 8: Close the navigation unit door.
Step 9: Close the trunk.
Step 10: Turn the car on and let the navigation disc upload into the system. This may take a few seconds.
Step 11: Remember to disengage the parking brake before you drive anywhere, in case you took this extra precaution back in step 1.
Step 12: Marvel in the fact that hardly shit has changed on your maps after 5+ years of updates.
Hopefully this is detailed enough. If needed, I may be able to post some pictures and diagrams later.

All comments are too true but in my area, much has changed since 2006. Alottt.... lots of new roads and exits on highways have been added as well as points of interests.
I also don't see those changes being worth paying any money for, therefore I am downloading a "backup" from the internet
Just needed to make sure the white disc was the "backup" I needed.

In my area there were also tons of new roads and freeway exits etc since 2006, most all done before 2010. But none of them are on the 2011 map. Or on the 2012 map my friend bought for his 05.
Even worse, the map still defines the "city" where I live by the naming convention that was last used in 1996 before a number of the surrounding suburban communities were amalgamated, so you have to remember the "old" city/neighborhood names to look anything up. What does seem to get updated are the points of interest info - phone numbers.
