My auto climate sucks!
Am I doing something wrong or is it just this bad? 2007 RL, I keep setting it lower and lower and I'm still sweatin my balls off even at 61. Where is the sensor? Could it be covered or something?

The sensor is just in front of you right knee as you drive. It's behind a piece of grated plastic and may be dirty. BUT, when was the last time you changed you cabin air filter?
Also, you do know that just below 58 is "Lo" which will run the A/C continuously at full blast. Right?

Thank you, I will check the cabin filter. I've only had it a few weeks. To be honest, I shut the ac off sometimes to save on fuel and power loss but it is usually in the 20's or 30's here, I like to put the setting on defrost and floor. You really need to use the ac to have it operate properly? The computer isn't smart enough to see that it's not 61 in the cabin and pull in some of the twenty degree air from the outside? Maybe I'm just expecting too much out of the system.

I understand that turning the ac off will change the setting, I don't always like auto, like I said, I like defrost and floor mix setting because of the excellent wipers we have on these cars that freeze up like none other I've seen (yes, I have them in the winter position). All I'm saying is something seems wrong when both my wife and I say it's roasting in the car (typical woman who is cold all the time) and I will adjust it way down, 61 for example, and the unit is still putting out not warm or mixed, but HOT air. Again, maybe I'm just asking too much from the system. I would love to just have the ability adjust the warm/cold mix myself. The problem I find with the auto setting is that it blows everywhere I don't want it too, like right in my face for example.
BTW, thank you for the suggestions, I'm just a little irritated with this car's system. I'm probably just gonna have to keep playing around with it.
Question about the sensor location, is it before or after the cabin filter?
Yes, the ac functions fine.

You should make sure the fan that pulls air into the sensor is working. The sensor is lower dash just above where your right knee would be. Take a piece of kleenex and see if it holds against the grate from the suction.

Hard to believe how this site has deteriorated. The guy asks a sincere question and gets mostly smart ass answers. He's saying the auto isn't working because he is experiencing warmer temps then his setting. It appears some comments are coming from folks who may not have dealt with cold temps. I can relate because I do live in a cold climate and on longer drives to keep comfortable my temperature setting is set at like 60. I shouldn't have to have the auto on or the air to control the temperature.

If you'd wipe the tears from your eyes and put your teddy bear down you'd realize that he is running in defrost mode which will override the inside temp settings causing him to sweat his ass off.
Which means you do not have to be in "auto" but you do have to turn the defrost off.
Furthermore in post 21, had you read the thread, you would also see that not only did we resolve his issue but it cost no money.
But hey, thanks for sharing your two cents you can have it back.

Someone give this guy a hug.

Will tell my experience with climate control on this car. I have tried many settings, and eventually understood that auto mode is the best! Even in winter where we get around -30C it works very nice.
This is how it works in auto mode:
1. Hot air blows only to the windshield, your legs, and side vents depending on internal car temperature, sun position and other factors flow is adjusted, end eventually it blows most to the legs, and a little bit to the side vents. Central vents never blow warm air, unless you set it manually.
2. Cold air never blows to your legs, its to keep them warm. Have you ever got sick after blowing very cold air to your legs in hot summer day? I did many times, until i understood that it is not good.
AC Must be on all the time for the auto mode to function properly.
This car has the best climate control i have ever had, and it really works without glitches until you try to set up manually...
Oh an yeah, wipers freeze up is the biggest problem in winter, have to agree with that, have scrape ice from them every day!
