Smile MPG : Please share yours

I have owned a 2005 Acura RL for a little over a year. Had bought the car in December 2020 when it had 112,500 miles on it. According to the Carfax report, it was always well maintained with all the needed maintenances done promptly. Despite all the good history, I still went ahead and changed the NGK Iridium Laser spark plugs with the same kind of plugs, flushed the coolant, changed the brake fluid, replaced the cabin and engine air filters as well as oil changes.

Here is the mileage I am getting presently:

CITY: 18 MPG
HWY: 29 MPG
COMBINED: 23 MPG
(55% city & 45% hwy)

Current mileage: 125,200

Based on the original specification, it is a little better than what Acura reported on the sticker. I am satisfied by the gas consumption performance. Just wondering what MPG others are getting and what is the current mileage on the vehicle? Please share your experience.

Lol mine is 11.2 MPG.
Air box replaced with SRI
Muffler deleted with a straight pipe

^ my mechanic said these are the cause of my low mpg but tbh, it doesnt really feel like it. not too bad for a 6 cylinder vtec car

OP must drive with a very light foot. I always averaged around 18mpg with mostly city driving.

My 2007 RL has 286,000 miles, according to the Fuelly app, my average is 25.5 mpg, I typically average closer to 23 mpg with 70% city driving, and around 27-28 mpg on pure highway roadtrips.

That’s a very impressive performance. It is particularly remarkable considering how many miles you have on your car.

I got about 15 city and 26 at a steady 75 mph. It really never changed from when I got the car at 35k to the present 157k. Runs great, uses no oil, just doesn't get great fuel mileage. It is not an economy car.

I can totally believe this is if you're on flat ground, and just maintaining speed on the highway. It's the city stop 'n go that kills mpg with this car.

Yeah it does. 187k and I get 15-17 mpg city. One quick highway trip got it up to 18.7 but that's the best it has done since I got it.

Acura TL 2008 3.2L 5AT @ 180k miles

29 mpg mixed feathering it.
36 mpg Highway @ constant 66-67mph on mild crests and troughs, full interior + one passenger, dry day, 75F

How is this possible on an RL?

I'm getting 14-15 with mostly suburban driving, and working it hard with pulse and glide hybrid techniques. If I just drove it for fun, it would be 10-12.

So, what have you done to your RL to get it to perform like this? Mine is at 175k and has been well-maintained it seems (from prior owners). I'm just a few weeks in. So, I LOVE the car. But my mileage is terrible. And premium in CA is so expensive!

I need your secrets!

To be honest, I don't worry too much about the MPG, though I do get around 16-17 around town. Highway I get 26-27. My dad owned the 2006 RL from new and only put regular gas in it, never premium, and it still runs great. I put premium in every other tank, and I also get good gas brands (top tiers). The RL is a spirited car, so MPG depends on how you drive it...and I drive it with a little spirit at times lol. If your mileage is down, it may be time for a tune up, like new plugs, air filter, proper tire pressure (35-36 PSI cold) and make sure you're not throwing any codes like a bad O2 sensor...might try to run some injection cleaner through a tank or 2.
