In Loving Memory

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6EKmRlAm-ng

Today June 10th 2011 I lost someone that was special to me. But she is replaced.

I traded in my Acura Rl for a 2008 BMW 535xi. Damn does this car move. My car is already missed but the BMW is doing just fine replacing the car.

I want to thank everyone on the RL forums for all the advice and knowledge on this vehicle. I will still be around because...

I have a special place in my heart for Acura

Now I have turned to the darkside.

My new beauty

Sweet pickup! I don't know that I could go to the darkened but I certainly see the attraction for performance. Enjoy!

sweet ride.. if you don't mind us asking - what did you pay for the 535? it must smoke the crap out of the RL in a straight line..

how does it compare in handling???

according to Car And Driver Bimmer is about 1 second faster to 60 and loses about 0.02G on the skidpad assuming stock tires.

so theoretically RL all wheel drive is superior. Total weight is about the same give or take 50lb.

Turbo should be better on gas consumption.

Welcome to Bimmerzine. If you post in Car Talk, you will find many who have moved on from Acura to BMW.

Good luck!

well OTD i payed 32000$

I got 12k for my trade with 82k miles.
My car was not in the best condition possible.

1 second faster is a whole difference. The 535 will smoke the shit out of the RL. It handles great too. I love the car man.

Nice work! This site has me torn between blowing money on my car and saving for my future. It's a breath of fresh air to hear such an enthusiastic modder know when to move on. Best of luck with the beemer.

It appears that you have traded reliability for speed. I truely wish you the best of luck.

Smart kid. Save your money and invest in even one property, you will be set. Congrats on the coming little one, make sure you take care of him/her. That will be aa reward quite unlike any other.

property investment was at one time a good idea, right now it makes no sense, especially in New York.

how many miles were on it? what was the MSRP of the car when it was new?? did you get a good deal? I haven't looked into the 535..but know those things are quick. it's the same engine as the 335i.... add a chip/ECU upgrade and you would be flyin'... you think it's fast now... the ECU upgrades ont hose cars add mega hp...

people here on this forum talk about adding jpipes..and intakes... which gives you NO power..people install that stuff and then struggle to notice any gain in power.. add an ECU upgrade to a turbo car like a 335i/535i and you'll gave 50+ hp... it's huge.

335is withi chips run int he 12s.... a 535i woudl be close..it's a heavier car..but it woudl be damn fast..

good luck.

32k OTD is not bad. what was the actual asking price and what did you get them down to? If I were to sell my RL... I'd consider a 535i. My only fear would be when it went of warranty, the repairs will frickin' kill you...

BMW/ MB/ Porsche.. all those german cars kill you in the service dept... which is whymost of them are leases... hope you got an extended warranty...and will pay it off before the warranty expires.. if you dida 72 month loan.. you will still be making car payemtns by the time you start getting nailed with $500-1000 repair bills..

i've been there done that...

but congrats on the sweet car. if I had more money to piss away on cars, i'd be doing a 535i or a used M5... those things are bitchen...

ECU upgrades void the warranty and invite more repairs. Have to be really well off financially to pull that off if you ever run into problems.

My solution is still the Genesis 5.0 R-Spec even though I never seen, drove it or even read about a quick road test.

the honest truth is you need to be really well off financially to own a BMW period. they are not cheap cars to maintain.

i've had a totally tricked out volvo s60r..... pita once off warranty. a porshce boxster... PITA when EVERYTHING went wrong...

my RL is not as much of a "driving machine" but it is way cheaper and more reliable....

but don't get me wrong.. if there was a 535i in my driveway... i'd be heading out the door to go drive around in it..

here is the deal. I do financing. I know the ins and outs with the banks. I mainly work my own deals so I wont have to be crazy upside down on my loans.

Yes the car has warranty and also bmw gave an extension of 120k miles or 5 years on the High Fuel Pump.

the car is currently at 49k miles. I saw one with 29k miles but the body had scratches. This car is clean inside and out. I been in the car business for 5 years and know exactly what I am doing.

I am a swindler

The 535 is a beast. That is all I will say.

People are telling me to chip this and add this.

NO!

I learned the hardway with the RL and things started breaking. THe RL is pure luxury and its not meant for all these crazy mods being put on the car.

better is a relative term. For some more speed=better, for others reliability=better.

RL can't touch bimmer on speed, just like Bimmer can't touch RL on reliability.

Well put! After dumping $$$ in my TL-S just to have it ride rougher, paranoid about about potholes, etc etc, I traded it in for an 07 M45S. Same as you, learning the hard way this one will stay stock!

people MOD cars to personalize, there are obvious risks involved. If you want A to B car you can drive a Corolla, a no thrills reliable car.

If you want more, things will start breaking down more mods or not in relative terms. The less u have = less things break.

23109VC - I didn't buy anything yet Im driving a good ol madza 626 beater at the moment until my brother needs a car in november, so like Blazin I'm am back and forth on spending/wasting $ on a nice car or just saving to try and grab up some property at a low interest rate while the market is Fu**ed, but as we all know automobiles are tempting....

$12000 seems a bit low though, don't you think ? What was wrong, that it would devalue so much ? I am possibly selling my 06 for $23000 after we have it inspected by the buyer. Mine has 33k miles on it.

Well in my area they say it is worth almost $25,000 and that is from KBB. I have taked very good care of it and it has always been garaged. To be honest I was suprised to see its value and even more suprised that the guy wants to pay it.
