Looking at a CPO 06 RL w/ 37k miles - tires, brakes question

So I'm in the market for a new car and I'm looking at a CPO 2006 RL with roughly 37k miles. It has the technology package. It also seems to have the original Michelin PAX tires and brakes.

Anyone have an idea of how long until the tires and brakes need to be replaced? And when I do replace the tires, if I want to deviate from the Michelin PAX tires, do I also need to buy new rims? Is there TPMS on the RL?

Thanks for all your help.

Your will find it tough to find replacements for the PAX tires. Michelin no longer makes them plus if you do find a set they will run about $2000. Your OEM rims will not allow any other tire plus I think the brakes need some mofifying also for new rims. My '06 non-tech is at 59750 miles and I still have 8mm left on the original pads - just confirmed this week when I had my 60000 mile check up.

Michelin is still producing PAX tires, but they aren't doing and additional development on them. Unfortunately, they are expensive (my dealer quoted me $2,000 once (I think this may have included new rims) and around $1,000 another time (no rims) so I'm not sure what's really accurate. I think the $1,000 is closer to reality but still expensive and you will most likely have to buy they through the dealer as very few other tire retailers carry the tire or equipment necessary to mount them. Also, if you get a flat, it could be a major pain to find a place to get it fixed and will cost a bit more than a typical flat.

I have around 39,000 miles on mine and according to my dealer, still had about 5/32nds tread left (as a month ago) which is pretty good, so I have no complaints about treadlife. They are also wearing very evenly but I keep them properly inflated (actually, +2 PSI) and have them rotated and balanced religiously.

If you want to de-PAX, it will run you around $500 plus tires and rims for the spare and related items. I doubt you'd get any help with the class action settlement as you won't be the original owner.

My brakes are still just fine. I have an '04 MDX that has about 79,000 miles and the brakes on that are still good as well, FWIW.

One thing about the PAX equipped cars is that you also get the active cruise control and CMBS. Both well worth the inconvenience of PAX, IMO.

I took the chance of running into issues with the "electrical problems" (aka bugs) in the '05 RLs to avoid buying a PAX 06 car.

The packaging and package labels for the 05-08 RL changed from year to year.

05 RL - One trim level. NAVI. No PAX/CMBS/ACC available yet.
06 RL - Two trim levels. Base (NAVI = 05) New package available with PAX/CMBS/ACC called 'TECH Package'.
07 RL - Three trim levels. Base (NO NAVI, NO AFS Headlights, Plood). Tech (NAVI, AFS, Wood = 05/06 Base RL). Tech + CMBS/PAX/ACC
08 RL = 07 RL Trim levels.

So no....unless the 06 RL was A 'Tech' (PAX/CMBS/ACC) it does NOT have PAX wheels / tires. The majority of 06 RLs were Base without the TECH package or....PAX/CMBS/ACC.

^ What he said.

You're worrying about almost nothing because that is a VERY rare option package. I think I have only one of three or four in this area. It's easy to tell in traffic because the grille emblem is a dead giveaway. I see one of the others tops once a month, sometimes less.
