Just picked up an RL

How's it going guys? I needed a new DD since my S2000 sits in the garage during the winter. I was aiming towards an '09 TSX and then I came across an RL while surfing the web. The car definitely blew me away and the AWD is definitely a plus. It only has 22k on it so it's mint. Anyway..just wanted to introduce myself.

Here's a quick photo of it.

Congrats!
Viewing the snow in the pic probably means "sfmarine" does not mean you are a boater in San Francisco

I'd start with cover for the S2k then a boat.

Nice ride, thanks for your service.

Thanks...I was on my way to CT and my area was only supposed to get an inch or so so I didn't put it in the garage...We only got about 5"!..

She is done though..once that first snowfall hits, she goes into being a garage queen again. I need to move to FL.

My mom just sold her RL for a new Volvo. My dad wanted to die. Enjoy, it will be one of the best cars you've ever owned.

So any secrets I need to know about this car? I've only owned it for about a day..but it's amazing so far. My S2000 has a secret compartment haha some people go years before they find it!

One thing I noticed is the wood steering wheel/shift knob is an option but it sure does look great (aside from the fact that it is a different shade of wood??). I was surprised to see it on the car I bought because I was pretty certain it was just the leather wheel and no wood. So maybe the pics got mixed up with another RL..peculiar to say the least, but I'm not complaining. I remember researching the car and being upset it didn't have it and I was set to buy the steering wheel and shift knob later on down the road because it looks that good.

Another thing I noticed is the factory tape is still on the door plate. I'm guessing the owner was a bit anal and wanted it to stay on? I'm not sure if I should rip it off now or not.

I wasn't convinced it was factory tape, so I left it on as well. It matches the blue light under the dash at night with door open.
There used to be a sticky thread about surprising things and tips, but I don't see it anymore. It had a lot of info.

Edit:
I found it through search. I guess it is not sticky. Have fun - about 7 pages of reading!!

Looks like you got a pretty cherry car there, congratulations! So, you'll want to find the secret compartment where the cabin-air filter is hidden (safe bet it's ready to swap) and the answer is... behind the glove box.

Next, you'll want the voice-command that sets the transmission and fuel-air management to full Sport, but I can't post that openly.

I had the same tape and took it out; looks much better with silver than blue-ish color...

Mine is the same combo (silver out, ebony interior) and luv the car so far

How much did you pay for your and what year is it? 22k is nothing; like a brand new car...

I paid 20.5k before taxes/fees. It's an '05..I wanted a newer car..'09-10 but this car is just too nice to pass up and like you said, the mileage is nothing. Acura of Manhattan has great prices and I highly recommend them.

My blue tape is still on. One corners shows that it is indeed tape, but I thought it was supposed to be like that for more than 6 months. I like it b/c it matches all my interior lights. The link posted is in the Garage which is a sticky. It is the second thread on the main page. Lots of good info there.

Congrats.

i bought my 06 as a CPO car with only 29k on the odometer and mine also still had the blue tape on the door sills... I left it on.

i was somewhat suspicious if the dealerships just buy new door sills iwht the tape on them to install...and make the cars look more "cherry" .... the doorsills are probably dirt cheap for the dealer and easy to put on... my car WAS truly mint when I got it... it looked like non one had ever set foot in the back seats.. ( no kids were EVER in my car until I got it).... and the nav entries were all "foo foo" restaurants.. some rich yuppy owned my car before I got and filled it with a family n kids...

maybe the person who owned your car was a foo foo yuppy too.... all the better.. you know it wasn't flogged..

i like the s2k.... i want one too!!!

enjoy the RL... it is the ultimate used car buy for a DD...

Def go after an S2k if you can. They are wonderful cars..and they sure do accommodate the RL nicely in the garage.

Here's some more pics I just took. I noticed my front and rear bumper is a different shade of silver. I'm guessing these were not two tone. The dealer did mention that the rear bumper was repainted..So I'm guessing they may have done the front as well. Oh well..I guess I can live with some blending issues.

back window is tinted

A very clean engine bay.

Congrats on your RL. It will treat you well. I think you were very lucky to find one with only 22k on it, its cherry is barely broken. I had your combo....an RL and S2000...then came the CTS-V....

Seeing snow on your S2000 put tears in my eyes. I have to buy another cover for mine....since dear spouse misplaced it.

Yeah..as I explained in my other post, I wasn t' expecting so much snow..just an inch or so but I was wrong. The snow has finally melted off it and she will be in hibernation mode soon.

Can anyone chime in about my different color bumper? I just want some closure haha. I see that there were 3 different silver color options to choose from so I'm guessing someone messed up or is it supposed to be two-toned? Thanks

Nope, definitely not supposed to be two-tone. Original owner must have lunched 'em both. Other than that, nice-looking car! And I second the comment that 22k is practically new. Isn't it nice that the first guy ate all that depreciation?

The stickies at the top of the forum will fill you in on the many terrific features of your new car. You'll be surprised and impressed.

Yeah...thanks for clearing that up for me..it is unfortunate but what can you do? The first owner sure did eat all that depreciation. I wonder how much he got on a trade..probably 14k. I can't believe I was considering a '12 Honda Civic...this is such an amazing vehicle.

Definitely a nice ride. Looks clean and you lucked out with the low mileage for a 05. Its a shame that I chose today to post that I'm selling my 08. She is a beauty and I'm sure u would have loved her. Nonetheless, welcome to Acura, u wont be dissapointed with your choice. Enjoy the ride

As for the blue tape, I discovered a very good reason to remove it: After mine was on for four years, I discovered to my horror that the tape had been trapping moisture under it and the metal was starting to rust. Not recommended.

Man...I noticed some dirt residue under the tape and my initial thought was..maybe it is rust..crap...so it is best to rip it off ? We're you able to clean it up at all?

I wasn't able to remove it all, but I did manage to make it better so it's not terribly noticeable. I'd get some rust remover from an auto parts store, the kind they used to sell for chrome bumpers. Then remove all of that and wax the hell out of the metal parts (being careful not to lighten the black areas around it) so it doesn't rust again.

Within 15 minutes of posting, there will be an "Edit" button to the left of "Quote". After 15 minutes, this button will go away.

On my iPhone, I have to hold the "Edit" button and open in a new window, or my Safari will crash. It is probably a un-updated issue, but it may happen on the iPad too.

As for rust, the acid in vinegar will remove it. Take a stiff PLASTIC brush and dab it in white (or other) vinegar. Then, brush off the rust. I say to use a plastic brush so that you don't scratch the metal. Wax like Tony mentioned should help to repel moisture afterward.

Hi, Austin here too. Speaking of the sills. once I was nosing around the dealer lot and opened an RL and one of the front sills said HONDA, not Acura, somebody in Japan made an oopsie. looked cool tho. too bad it was not both sills.

always loved the RL but my current job status is not great for a car purchase, and the mpg is really a minus for me, but if you get a good price then I guess gas costs can be balanced out. just like some hybrids, if you are buying to save gas costs, you have to figure purchase cost against that.
sorry to divert, always love the RL. but hey, my 6MT CLS only gets 18-19 in town lately. great car also.
