Improve XM reception in 06?
Okay so I know 5/6 the sharkfin was for onstar then removed for a year or two then readers as XM only.
So my reception has always kind of sucked in any mildly blocked area. Tree lined mountain road, parking garage unless I'm at the very edge, etc.
I figured this was normal and then a couple weeks ago I'm visiting a friend in Atlanta who just got a new cr-v and we drive to IKEA listening to XM. Anyway we get to the parking garage and we pull in and his XM radios coming in in the middle of the parking garage with a huge concrete and steel floor above us. I was in shock. We eventually lost signal but far beyond what would have went out in the RL.
is there anything that can be done to get better reception in the RL? Where is the antenna for xm on the 2006?

Have you tried your reception in the same garage? Some garages, cut reception right away for me while others do not.

I'm pretty sure the antenna runs along the bottom of the rear windshield. Is there metallic tint on the glass?
I didn't know people still paid for XM. What's the going rate these days?

Though you are right without a like test in same building I can't be 100% sure of that. We were deep in there before it went out.

Hmm. Do they know that Pandora is only $48/year and WAY better?

I don't use Panora anyway, so it's okay.
If they have XM, the options are there. It just seems to me like an obsolete technology, especially to have to pay that much for.
I'll still happy to help the OP debug regardless of his preference for audio source.

I pay about $75 a year for XM...I get it just for Opie and Anthony...every year I call XM and tell them I'm going to cancel if they don't give me a deal..they always do.

For what it's worth, I had XM in my last car for 8 years. I recently bought an 06 RL and can honestly say that I lose reception in all the same places as I did with my old car. Seems like dead spots are dead spots no matter which antenna you are using with XM.
