Ignition switch Rl 2006
Hi guys, I have a question that most of you guys would probably know. I did a search but didn't turn up anything. maybe my search parameters weren't very good.
i pulled the ignition key cap off just for kicks and I used the key to turn on the ignition. I assume that the physical key is keyed to the actual ignition correct? and any old acura rl key wouldn't be able to turn it. right? curious design btw.
thanks in advance.

Correct, the lock cylinder is coded to match the key or visa-versa. Only the correct key will be able to turn the lock cylinder.
However, that doesn't mean the car will start. The key's chip also needs to be recognized by the imobilizer unit too in order for the car to start.

Not sure what purpose what design serves? If the keyless access module dies, you aren't stuck in a parking lot. Or if your fob batteries go completely dead, same thing.
