How long do you plan to keep you RL?
well, friend recently got his 05 RL totaled and got a 07 GS350 awd.
I also went thru good amount of cars totaled due to other driver's faults.
Sustained good amount of internal body injury due to that as well.
Following are options in segment:
RL / A6 / 5-Serise / CTS / 300C / M35x / XF / GS350 / MKS / E-Class / S80
What would be your pick and reason?

Anything N/A and 2wd is off the list.

CTS-V/Regal GS AWD/GS350 AWD/mkz awd

CTS-V.
Because race car.
EDIT: Didn't see Heavy's post. MKZ =
, Regal =
. I would drive a Genesis over those two 10 times out of 10. And T4s in a heavy pig? No thanks. Give me a DI V6 or plain old V8.

CTS-V is different animal than RL.
Then the question becomes M5 vs E63 vs CTS-V vs XFR-S.
S6 is little short to compete with those above unless it's RS6.
From sound perspective alone, i'm sold on XFR-S as it sounds amazing and it's so rare.
I forgot to include Genesis to the list,
but isn't MKZ in segment below than RL?
That's the reason why I put MKS in there instead.
I would never consider Regal/Buick, not that I'd consider half of the cars in the segment anyways.

I'm not douche enough for anything "M", and eff any car that I cannot check the oil in.
On that note, if I'm not upgrading then why buy... #CTSV #fuckahyundaianything
I didnt realize the MKS was AWD... my bad. As for Buick, they are making a run... I'd buy that over the Dodge line up anyday.
At the end of the day, there is a very short list that most of us would sell our GenII RL for. 1. CTS-V 2. Another G2RL

Tough choice, nothing can replace the RL.
BMW and Mercedes are nightmares to work on and parts ain't cheap. Audi is moving that way too...you cant change rear brakes without a computer. Infiniti is cheap. Cadillac is not awd, I don't think and it's a gas guzzling v8. The S80 is very solid, but awd? Subaru legacy is pretty nice, worth a look.
Genesis deserves a look, but it's a Hyundai and longevity and material quality are questions. I don't know what I'd do if I had to replace my RL.

The 2.0T and DI V6 are both available in AWD, and neither is a gas guzzling V8. The DI V6 is probably faster than the RL too. Then there is the DI V6 twin turbo @ 420 HP and 430 ft*lb to the rear wheels.
I forgot about that one.
Ummm... I think we found the answer...

Also, Hyundai has had the best warranty in the industry for a while, and they aren't showing any signs of issues. The new Hyundai is not the old Hyundai. They are here to stay and compete. To be quite honest, they have overtaken Acura in just about every way except for the MDX.

Meant in fit and finish, just not impressive compared to RL. Didn't mean price. Maybe the newer ones have improved. Felt like getting in a Nissan whereas the rl dies not feel like getting in an accord.
Cadillac AWD might be pretty interesting, didn't know it was offered.

And yes, as an Accord Touring owner, as nice as it may be, doesn't compare to the RL or M's.
Ideally, I'd like to find a 2012 Black/seacoast RL advanced in perfect condition but, the 2013 M37x is VERY, very tempting until the mythical RLXh is ever trapped in the wild and tamed for domestic use.
I just bought my 2006 RL with 65k miles. I plan on driving it for at least 8 years, or if gas prices soar up to like $6+ per gallon..lol. I drive around 10k miles per year, so this car should last me for quite awhile. I have had my 2006 Spec-V since Aug 2006 and it only has about 86k miles on it. I will likely drive the RL to around 150k miles, unless either it gets into an accident (hope it doesn't) or I enjoy driving it longer than the 150k. Either way, that is way down the road...pun intended.
How long
120K+ on mine with no real issues. Front end clank when I go over moderate chop, but not when the brakes are on. Neither Acura nor a local service tech can hear it or find anything wrong. Go figure.
Only reason I would change cars is for a change of scenery and perhaps more power.
AWD is key for me. The germans are great, as long as you have your own Swiss numbered account and you get rid of it at 75K (learned my lesson more than once).
I've had my eye on some of the AWD SHO's. Anyone?

Glad to see this thread has gotten tons of responses! The general census seems to be that 2G RL owners love the car, and plan to keep it for a while.
Very few cars can match the reliability, tech., and craftsmanship of the RL. I've considered many other cars to replace my RL, but nothing seems to top it, yet. Perhaps this will change when the RLXh finally htis showroom floors which should be soon.
I have an '05 and '06 RL that I bought new and as someone else pointed out, at 9-10 years old with no rattles or squeaks, it's still an amazing ride. I am fortunate to have a company car, so my mileage has been kept relatively low (63k and 59k respectively). They are great to drive, fun to modify and have been very reliable and problem free aside from the two recalls, so I'm keeping them as long as there are still parts available to fix them.
I really wanted to drive an RLX w/SH-AWD and see if all the hype is worth it, but they are not even available yet. The PAWS does not impress me because it's very FWD biased. Not sure I want to deal with the bastardized, Oops, I mean hybridized systems either, otherwise I'd just buy a Tesla!

As you can see from my signature, I have 3 Acuras and even though the 99TL is old and has 260k miles on the odo, it's too damn reliable and won't die. My 06RL only has 52k miles on it, so at this rate it may just last forever!
I've promised my 7 year old son that he can have our '06 Acura RL. The only concern I would have is any future electronic related issues could be expensive to fix so I guess we'll have to see when we reach that. Like right now there is a bug with the #2 key where it doesn't recognize the seat memory settings anymore. I'll have to look at it more.
I have a silver 2008 RL Tech Nav with 40K miles. I love it and plan to keep it until it falls apart. Have had no issues with it. Nice design, drives quiet and smooth, love the dove grey perforated leather seats. For awhile, I was hounded by dealerships wanting me to sell my car to them due to low mileage and it's perfect condition inside and out. On a move from the Midwest to the Seattle area, I got caught in one of the worst Rocky Mountain snowstorms of the year. The SH-AWD was a lifesaver, and the car handled perfectly. Edmunds says the styling on this model is a bit ho-hum, but I think it looks elegant and rich. It's a keeper!
2005 rl with 140k miles on it and it's running smooth as heaven. It's feels much better than my 04 Lexus rx330. For a ten years old car it's still looks like new and every functions still work flawlessly. Best navigation system on the planet. I will drive it until it can no longer be fixed.
You guys are both freaking me out and concerning me.... just recentlt closed on a used 06 RL with 100k, 2 owners dealer serviced, never seen an auction.
Im coming from 15 year ownership of Acura legend coupe(s) So naturally ive been wanting to graduate once that ran its course...
Hearing people speak of worry about a car that shoulf ride easily into the 300ks+ with regular care is strange.
Not sure if you all have heard of legend owner tyson hugie. The man has a prestine 500+k legend coupe in nearly showroom condition with original paint, clutch and engine.
So as far as im concerned. I have great hopes and confidence jumping into a dealer serviced and well cared for 100k 06 RL.... 👍

I'd love to keep mine but right now I'm stuck with having to decide what to do about the suspension as I have an a-spec setup and the front struts need to be changed. But a-spec struts are no longer available. Been thinking about the tein comforts - yes there are still a few sets out there - as I love monotube shocks. Only other issues are: the glove box needs to be replaced as well as the side bolster on the driver's seat.
Love this car and haven't found anything like it in terms of drivability and enjoyment.

I had my RL with the same intent - 'til it dies, I will only then part with it...
however...
I have been test-driving different cars/SUVs, etc. over the period of good 3 years and decided to pull the plug and let RL go into good hands, while I got myself '18 RLX Sport Hybrid which are now discontinued. Nothing came close to RLX SH in terms of performance, lux, pricing, etc. that I can say "this is a worthy successor of my current car" ...
My RL was pretty set, with the exception of a couple of rust spots (near the windshield on a driver side, rear left and right qt panel, passenger door handle. It had 217k miles, T-Belt replaced around 100k then 200k, engine mounts replaced at 140-150k ... suspension replaced at about the same time along with front upper/lower control arms, and the rest of the bits and pieces... only springs I did not replace when all this was done...
BUT... knowing that electric cars won't come down in price any time soon... second, electric cars infrastructure of chargers is not that great... third, nothing else comes close to what I wanted out of my next car... RLX SH was the best pick and I got it...
2018 RLX SH Certified, 26k miles (now 29k), plan to get Acura Care warranty... it was leased by dealer sales guy's mom who is over 70 years of age, (proven and no joke on this) - so definitely a good deal to make a call like this
