How come the TL has 5 hp more than the RL with the same engine ??

The 2010 RL has 300 hp while the 2010 TL with SH-AWD has 305 hp. Both cars have the same engine, the 3.7 L V-6.

Does anyone know why the TL gets 5 more horsepower ??

and 2 more foot pounds of torque ?

Yeah, it is a good question, especially when the RL boasts the first use of VTEC on the exhaust side of a J series engine. I see no talk of the same technology in the TL engine.

Anyone know?

I think it's all puffery to make the TL sound more sporty.

Didn't get a chance to jump on the dyno just yet.

They have different transmissions don't they? Perhaps it's the gearing.

..Or that it's lighter. Is it lighter than the RL? I don't know, but I think it would be.

I would think engine power and torque would be measured independent of weight. It would be 0-60 that would be influenced by weight of the car/engine, other things being equal.

Engine management - software in the ECU is programmed differently for each car.

No, I think it is that the tires on the RL are filled with Nitrogen.

ECU tune, Marketing, or possibly a different intake/airbox.

The TL-SHAWD version does employ VTEC on the exhaust just like the RL, the FWD model does not. IT has to do with the computer tuning, the TL revs higher for the sportiness, the RL is tuned more for luxury. Finally the transmission gear spread could be a factor also Japan vs US
