Headlight Bulb Question

Headlight Bulb Question
12 months ago I had the headlamps bulbs on my 2005 RL replaced with Heliolite W0133-1610302 Headlight Bulbs , now the drivers side just stopped working.
The body shop that did the work didn't put back all the plastic back proper come to find out and now I had to cut away some of the plastic as it became damaged by the the tire.
My question could the missing plastic have effect on the lights, bulbs or ballasts or could really the bulb just went bad this soon?
Thanks

The ballast is on the bottom of the headlight surround. The bulb is inside the headlight and not only should have a plastic cap on it, but the bulb has it's own surround (projector) that it's inside of. So chances of anything (moisture/dirt) making a bulb go bad are slim to none.

Shouldve dropped the bumper and removed the assembly.
