Got an '06 RL today!
CPO, black over parchment, 36k on the clock. Clean except for a couple of tiny interior stains, functionally defect-free except for a little plastic-on-plastic noise from the far right side of the dashboard that I noticed over larger bumps.
Paid $26,800, plus an extra $995 to extend the bumper-to-bumper coverage from 1-1/2 years to 3+. OTD came to a whisker under $30k. I don't feel like this was the best price in the world, but I'm not going to lie on these boards to look better. I HOPE it wasn't a bad price, of course. But I knew exactly what I wanted, right down to the color, and this was the only local example with a clean Carfax (there was another one, with several references to undescribed "checked electricals" service visits. With the education all of you have given me, I didn't think so).
I've read this board faithfully for many months, and when I drove the car home, it was so swimming in features I still didn't know how to use half of them. I had to hunt for minutes just to adjust the fan speed. I suspect this is the kind of car where the befuddlement shrinks and the pleasure grows over time. At least, I've gambled pretty heavily on it. :.)
I've waited a long time to join you in fact as well as on the board. Great to be in the club for real!

Welcome to the RL side!
For the fan.....just press AUTO, set temperature, you don't have to do anything else. I always kept my climate control on automatic.

I think it is a very fair price for '06 with relatively low miles. If that was available to me, I would have bought it too. I was only looking for a few weeks - but I only saw 3 black w/ parchment. Most had black/black which I did not want. Even though it is harder to maintain - the parchment definitely looks nicer. Congrats and enjoy!!!

The price you paid is fair. Used car prices are at their highest right now. What is important is that you found the color you wanted. Enjoy your new car.
Take your car to the dealer to get the dash board noise fixed.

hey, I htink your price is not bad at all. I just bought a 2006 RL with 29k miles. also a CPO car. I also paid the extra $900 or so to extend the warranty. I paid $26,500 for mine. so my overall OTD price was VERY similar to yours. you paid $26,800 I paid $26,500. only diff is my car has about 10k fewer miles.... but in the end, i htink our deals are FINE!
the car is great, and the fact that it is a CPO, plus, we have the extended CPO, so basically, we have almost the equivalent of a new car warranty for the next 4 years. i know my CPO is bumper to bumper up to 100k. that's some nice peace of mind!
yes, these cars are full of features!
i tinted mine right away, and also added the OEM decklid spoiler. parts and labor I think teh spoiler was about $500. i paid the dealer to install it. the tint + spoiler really makes the car look more agressive and sportier.
the only other thing to really make the car stand out would be to change wheels. the stock 17" are pretty plain/boring. but my tires are still good and i'm not in a rush to swap them out.
enjoy the new car! the RL is a very underappreciated car. i test drove 5 series, E class, Lexus, etc, and I foudn teh RL to be as good as all of them and I got way more for mymoney.
good deal!

Thanks, Chas.
I'll just keep repeating that to myself: "Fan speed X... fan speed X..."

get the 09 rear sway bar, great upgrade to improve body roll on stock suspension. $65 for bar and bushings, then $50 to install at a local mechanic. do a search for the parts to order.

Even more interesting is that the effect of a rear swaybar is to ease the handling load on the front tires by overloading the outboard rear tire in hard cornering. Guess what driving situation is exactly the one that derives the maximum benefit from SH-AWD? :.)
