First Service
Hi everyone got a question for ya. My car has become due for its first service (Service B, I believe). I noticed in the manual that basically this consists of an oil change, rotating the tires, and checking some stuff. I'm wondering, do I need to drive to the nearest Acura dealership (4+ hours round trip), or can I just do this stuff myself? I realize that if something fails and it is attributed to lack of maintenance it won't be covered... Any input would be greatly appreciated! Thanks.

I don't think you are obligated in any way to have Acura perform any of the scheduled maintenance items. If you do the servicing and as long as you maintain receipts for your oil, filter and log-in the maintenance items on a spreadsheet you should just fine.

There is no need to take it to the dealer, and as long as you do the required maintenance and keep receipts Honda will honor your warranty. I advice against taking it to Jiffy Lube or other similar outfit. The inexperienced kids they hire at $6.50 an hour can do a mess of your car in a hurry. Do the maintenance yourself if you can or have a trustworthy and experienced mechanic that you know well do it.

Of course it would be nice to get the maintenance reminder cleared. I haven't heard of Acura code scanners yet but I assume someone makes them? I have a VAG-COM for my wife's Audi and used to have a more generic OBD-II for my Eclipse.

Do you mean permanently cleared? It is possible to clear the reminders when they occur (as described in the owners manual), but the computer resets for the next time (apologies if you already know this!). Being a geek at heart, I would love to get all the detailed codes to view (via OBDII or whatever Acura uses), but I don't know if I could do anything other than admire the data.
