Feeler: Roof spoiler

What about a roof spoiler for the RL?

I'm definetly going to attack this mod! Any idea of which spoiler I could use that could strectch to fit the back of the rear windshield?

I think that it would depend on whether or not you wanted the spoiler to increase downforce at speeds in excess of 140MPH or if you just wanted to rice the clean lines of the RL's design.

What is this supposed to do (besides block the upper part of the window glass)?

Is it to alleviate the "stigma" of a boy racer owning a mature persons car?

no just that it looks good. My friend has it on a M45. Never saw it on that car and it looks really hot. Just curious to how it would fit on the RL. Def. going to try the mod

I'm sorry but I have to agree here. I fail to see the 'hotness' of a spoiler on a roof. At any rate, post pics when you get it done.

The 05-08 has a pretty clean cD of 0.28 vs the 09 which has increased to 0.30 so I am not sure that a roof spoiler would have much functional use, besides which the car is limited to 133 or 134, so I am guessing the roof spoiler would be pretty much for looks.

I suppose it could be done tastefully, but likely will have to be a custom made part. Here is one for a Lexus

http://www.lextasy.com/ls460-body-kit.htm

I wonder how it attaches to the car? Show us the pics of what you come up with.

How about a rear wing, like the WRX?
I know style is a personal thing but it seems some mods are just out of place.

Blazing GT, if done right it could be a good look. You should probably hit up Sarona Designs see if they can fab one for you.

Blazing, I appreciate your energy on this, but....not on an RL, man. TL, yes. RL, no.

Even so, to each, his own. If it can be done so it's tasteful, definitely take pics and show us how it can be done.

I think it could be done, tastefully and look good. As long as it's not an eye sore...

This is the fasted RL that I know of....

http://images.google.com/imgres?imgu...%3Den%26sa%3DN

....it does not have a roof spoiler.

It is my understanding that a spoiler does not make a car faster, only more stable at speed depending on how and where the application.

I won't speak to aesthetics. I still wear my pants at the waist.

99.9% of people that install spoilers, body kits, etc do it for aesthetics and hopefully rarely for performance as very few of these companies uses any wind tunnel testing to improve performance. Point is, if you want it, it's your car, enjoy it.

Didn't that whte RL (touge) have one?

I think if its small and understated it would look good.

Post up a pic of the specific style you want so eveeyone can get an idea.

I passed an old Camaro with the balck aluminum louvers covering the rear window. Perhaps we could find something like that for the RL and get a group buy together.

I vote no roof spoiler.

not every car uses the same roof spoiler...

I want it to be a little smaller than the decklid spoiler...or the same size

So a small one like all the BImmers use?

Its more of a sports car type of thing so if that's the look your going for it should be ok.

I've thought about doing it. Making it half fiberglass and carbon fiber. But would be a custom made roof spoiler which blend into the car. I have to go to the drawing board and see how it would look.

You planning on doing something like this?

I think if it was something subtle like that it would look ok on your RL.

Anything over agressive and I would agree with the previous comments about it going on a more sporty car like TL, not a Luxury sedan like the RL.

I think it'll look good if you get one that compliments the lip spoiler.

^Agreed. Nothing huge and tacky. Just a simple small lip that's colormatched. I don't think it would hurt
