F-009: New acura rl console

I have a 2005 acura rl. I recently looked at the 09 rls, really not my taste but the one thing i do like about then is the interior especially the console how it is woodgrain. i was wondering if there was any way to make the 09 wood console piece from the 09 fit in the 05 rl to get rin of the plain center console . any input? or if anyone has done it could you tell me how hard was it to install and the total cost? i looked on acuraoemparts and i see the console piece but im just not sure if it would fit. thanx!

There's also some wood kits that you can apply to your 05. I'm not normally a fan, but it looks good in my car.

Mine was done by the Dealer, but I don't know why you couldn't do it yourself. It's less than $100 from what I can see on the web. Here's an example:

http://www.carid.com/2007-acura-rl-w...ain-dash-kits/

I removed the part around the knobs/radio area. It was a little overdone for my taste.

I've never seen it done, but you an also purchase a carbon fiber kit!

I'm not normally into those wood kits either, but yours looks great! You didn use all the pieces which was a good idea. I looked at that link and I like your "less is more" approach. I may look into that.

It looks good so I checked the web link and it states that the basic kit is 38 pieces! I wanted the gear shift area and cubby hole and under the armrest. That leaves 35 pieces unused - where do the rest of them go?

Yeah i ordered a kit from CARID.com and i dont like it because it doesnt fit all the way and you can still see the plastic underneath the cup holder and the shifter, and i was having problems with mine sticking and the way it looked after installing i would never even think of gluing it with the adhesive they give you. i just thought the real center console would be a nice touch and i think it does look good in the pictures, the prices the guy from prestige acura are pretty reasonable i wonder if he still has them so i can get started on this project. lol

thought the giu who retrofitted the newer Acura console onto an older 05-08 said it required some customization, it was not a direct "plug n play" swap.

The cig lighter has to move and se of the
punting points were diff? It sounded doable, but it's not a 30 mim job ..

Just finished this and I'm only going to only show these pics for now.
I'll post more details and pics later (prob next week sometime).

In short, I had to modify the 09 console in these areas:
1. Remove bottom half of underside aux cover and remove wire/connector that it came with.
2. Shave seat heater surrounds on under side of console to retrofit 05's seat heater chrome bezels.
3. Extend aux wire from OEM connector with bend 09 aux terminals and connector. This is to be able to open and close the aux. It's still not the way I want it but fine for now until I have more time to fiddle with it.

Also had to shave the center console wall about 2" on the drivers side. This is to accomodate the aux underside housing.

Not sure if these modifications will be needed for all 05-08 RL's but this is what I had to do to make it fit mine.

More details and pics to follow. Need to sleep now.

Thanks.

Or get the wooden shifter knob for about $100 bucks on eBay. Less than thirty minutes to install and it will make a big difference.

Hmmm.
I have different design of gear shifter area. My one doesn't have “snake like” pass. It is straight and hidden under leather cover.

Honda LEGENDS do not have the staggered shift gate as pictured. This was for North American spec RLs from 05-08. With the 2009 RL the LEGEND style shifter was adopted on the RLs as well.

I remember one RL member who refitted his RL with the LEGEND shifter (along with other mods).

There a various differences between RLs and LEGENDs depending on the market. Some have keyless ignitions, some use a key, some have cooled seats only, some have heated only. Some have headlight washers, some do not, etc.

Ok, thanks for explanation. I was under impression that all of them pretty much the same. As we have here only two versions with or without LKAS/CMBS. Options are just 18' wheels & parktronicks. All other gadgets are included.

Nice. LKAS is not offered here in the US, and I wonder if they ever will because of the multiple jurisdictions and regulations and more importantly, liability. Nothing so nice and neat as all roads must have a radius no tighter than 250m for example

LKAS is not available in continental Europe either. I have been told that it is for right-hand drive side only for some reasons. But I am not sure about Oz & NZ.

I put a dash kit on my 03 CLS. but it was real brushed aluminum to match the silver stock trim, I liked it. sometimes the fake wood ones don't come off as well, but there are ranges of quality. It's common to see the same kits but with slight differences and prices from different online companies.
Some will send a sample so you see the material first.

also, I prefer the US 09 RL leather boot shifter over the orig gated look. I wish it were an easier switchout on the 05-08. it seemed pretty complicated and expensive to do.
and I've never liked the wood steering and knob much, but most seem to like it. It looks too Lexusy for me and I don;t like the feel. I like the smoother all leather wheel, and the wood gets hot here in Texas.
