Exhaust Discoloring Rear Bumper

This may be more noticable from the mere fact that my RL is White. I have had to clean, after each new tank of gas, the area just above the exhaust pipes. This area becomes discolored quite quickly. Could this be due to the engine only having 1100 miles to date?

I am not concerned, right now. But down the road, the constant discoloring could affect the paint quality in this particualr area. Am I the only one to notice this fenom???

My exhaust tips are tarnished, which I'm sure can be taken care of with polish, but I haven't seen any discoloration on the bumper. 1,300 miles, BTW.

What only the bumber? Mine was pitch black all over the bumper and way up on the trunk lid. And it was impossible to read the plate. When I brought the car in for a bunch of electronic bugs (traffic, POI functions, door lock, noise cancellation), the service rep blamed it on 6 gallons of gas I had bought in Canada. But the discoloration didn't occur until long after that batch was used up and I was two thirds into a fillup with good old Mobile premium bought in upstate New York. Since the discoloration coincided with a fairly significant drop in MPG, I have a feeling the car was and perhaps is running rich. But service adviser was not much interested. Advised me to drive a while longer and see what happens. This is a sweet ride, but my toys ain't working...

Good Point.

I never thought about it burning too much oil. You think that a 2005 car would not allow for this kind of oversight, let alone an Acura.

I will make a call this week to the good ol' Acura dealer.

Thanks everybody for your input.

Having an OBP 05' RL I've not noticed my bumpers "blackening". However, my chrome exhaust tips tarnished rather quickly and are very difficult to clean...
